No VTEC Oil Pressure =(

Alright, so, Vtec hasn't been running, did some research, code 1259 popped up saying it was either vtec oil pressure switch or vtec solenoid valve, so dled the helms manual and have done all the diagnostics test in order, all have passed, the solenoid valve and switch both passed multimeter readings along with their connectors, took solenoid off and replaced both gaskets and checked plunger for no binding and smooth pumping. Next step in the process was to hook up a oil pressure gauge, not the actual sensor sending under under the car by the oil filter, but right under the distributor to the right underneath the valve cover, when I hook the oil gauge there, there is absolutely no oil pressure, can start engine and rev to 5000 not a drop comes out, stuck a magnet into the hole and its perfectly clear but no oil pressure what so ever, T didn't attach gauge to bottom switch because the car runs fine and makes no clicking sounds so im assuming its running with normal pressure, it's just not sending enough pressure to the vtec solenoid which is causing it not to engage.

So if anyone has any experience or know how on this matter, it would greatly be appreciated.

Car is 1997 base lude, M/T, No mods, oil level is about 1 quart low atm, 100k miles, no other cels, runs fine, just irritates me vtec isn't running, and ya rev limiter kicks in around 6.5k

My best bet is to top off the oil and try your testing again!!!

If the oil isn't topped off then the VTEC will not engage!!!

Im not sure if it was a full quart low, the oil level when tested was just shy of the top notch, so i was just saying it was slighty lower then full capicity but nowhere near the low end

Re: No VTEC Oil Pressure =(

i have a 99 honda civic with a b16a2 swap that i have recently finished rebuilding the bottom end of. i have had problems with my vtec since day one though. i tried everything to fix it, wiring, ecu, oil pump, sensors, etc... no vtec... one thing that i have to mention is i have a built skunk2 head although i personally wasnt the one to assemble it... i brought my motor to a nearby motorsports shop in town for troubleshooting, where they had taken a look at everything and made arrangement so everything was in order, as in the wiring and all that **** bla bla, except for the fact that i wasnt getting oil pressure to my vtec solenoid, WHICH WAS MY PROBLEM.... thats all they told me before i left they said they had no idea what was causing this, only the fact that something is assembled wrong in the head.. so im wondering if maybe somebody else out there has some ideas.. please reply to this thread!!! i dont want to have to figure out the hard way!
if no ideas what should i do to figure it out?

Damn that would suck. As much as I hate to say this cause I love to do things myself and don't trust dealers. Maybe u should bring it on to one.
