Another new owner as of today haha

Similar situation as my ther other guy too lol. My old lady wrecked her car in late january and I wrecked my truck in early febuary (yea this winter sucked). Long story short bought her a 01 carolla and she couldnt learn to drive stick so I kept the car for myself. Her, her big brother, and me went out to look at a sentra and seen the lude. her brother and I were on it like a fat kid on cake. Being a smart ass he ask told the sales man 5500 and we would drive it. The guy suprisingly bit. So we ended up buying it lol. Its silver with the auto )= its a 97 with 122k on it. I do have two questions as of right now. How do you set the clock in the dash? Also the HONDA! dealer couldnt program a second key to actually start the car. Are these people just handicapped is there any tips I can give them to get it to actually work for more then just the door? Were not lookin to make this into a super sporty car. Its fine as it is. If anything I wouldnt mind making it more reliable if thats even feaseable. Oh an I almost forgot any tips on where I can find a cheap set of rims for winter? Its got nice chrome ones on it now and it needs snow tires. I really dont want to fork over 300 a tire becuase I have to run a 40 series since there 17s.

Also pics are coming tomorow since their detailers suck and I have to redo EVERYTHING.

Best thing for reliability of course will be to keep up with your maintenance and keep a whole 5 speed swap for whenever that auto craps out on you. Clock on the dash is pretty strait forward push hour for hours and minute for minutes...Not sure about your key dilemma.

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

The clock you simply keep pressing the HR til you get the the HR and MIn til you get to the MIN!!! There's no trick to it!!!

As for the key....when I bought my Lude it came with only 1 key and I had to buy/make another one. The dealership you went to has A$$holes bc the one I went to they charged about $50 to make another programmed (T5) key!!! The reason why I made another was to put inside the modulator to make my auto start/alarm work!!!

As far as the tranny....take it easy on it. Dont beat on it too much. VTECing once in a blue is ok but dont overdo it!!!

My auto tranny was near on taking a sh*t on me as well as my motor!!! My tranny was slipping and my motor crank and crank pulley was half shot and gone to the point where it was shaved to have no teething what so ever!!!

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

Im not to super worried about the auto tranny. It doesnt seem to be slipping. It did seem to shift really hard last night once but I couldt have hit a big crack or pothole at the same time. Nice thing tho I forgot to bring up the dealer we bought it from replaced the timing belt and the crank pully for 200 bucks so im happy I didnt have to do that.

Ok off to the shop to properly clean the car. Pics soon to come!

who in the hell told you good tires for 17's are 300 a tire?? smack them in the face. the preferable size to run on 17's on a 5th gen is 215/45/17 and you can get them for a really good price at tirerack.com. i paid like 450 shipped for a set of 4 BFG's, and they are great tires.

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

lol ok I was being a little sarcastic. I think a set of blizzak on tire rack cost 150 a tire. But thats not really solving the issue I still need different rims. If I can get my camera to coperate I will be postin pics up soon here.

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

when you said chrome rims, i was expecting something awful. but those arent bad at all. our auto trannies are notorious for crapping out, A LOT. so id def do a 5spd swap for reliablity/more fun. as for cheap wheels. just get a set of steelies. 5x114.3 and throw snowies on those. i got a replacement key for like 40 bucks from the local locksmith, they can just clone them

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

You've got alot of miles on the auto tranny... whoever had it last must have babied it. Just don't put it into tiptronic mode / beat on it and you should be alright. Nice find ;)

and xinfinity about the tranny if it goes... do the manual swap

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

lol like I said the car is for the wifey so once she learns how to drive manual in the corolla I would be more willing toi do an auto swap. And yea it was a younger girl who owned the car. her parents bought it for her and apparently one of the stipulations was it was maintained by honda at every interval and if she got any moving violation the car was going to be taken away lol. I was there when she was getting her new car lol. so far I am into it the more I look at it the more it grows on me and makes me want to get the bit of body work on it that needs to be done taken care of.

Oh and I didnt know that the little panel below the clock came down like it does. That was a total noob moment lol.

Re: Another new owner as of today haha

Nice 97!
I have my original 2001 rims that I might let go.
I cleaned them after removing last year and have them stored. When using the pressure washer, some of the clear coating was removed. Other then that they are true and good condition with original lugs and centers. My 2001 AUTO has 205K, no problems, knock on wood. but it has been taken very good care of with tranny service and staying out of VTEC most of its life :)
