ACT clutch VTEC trouble

ive done my research and couldnt quite find a good answer on the issue i have. I just finished the install of my ACT 6 puck clutch and 8lb fidanza flywheel and allowed 200 miles of city driving and decided to not go all out and just try a 3rd gear pull. VTEC engaged at 5500 rpm instead of the usual 5200 rpm. i didnt know if i had to hit it a few more times to get it on par with the new clutch and flywheel so i did a few more pulls and same thing happend. 4th and 5th gear hit pretty much at 5200 but sometimes will cut out at late 6000's. i then tried 1st and 2nd gear pulls. 1st gear doesnt engage until 6400 and something similar sounding to a rev limiter cuts it out at 6800. 2nd gear has shown no consistency in VTEC crossover. it fluctuates from 5500 to 6000 on crossover. sometimes not at all and cuts out. im not to savvy when it comes to this subject. ive read people talking about solenoid cleaning but i dont think thats the issue. mabey something with fuel? just looking for some clarity. thanks guys.

Re: ACT clutch VTEC trouble

This dosnt seem to be true on my car but preludes are supposed to hit vtec only when the gas pedal is pushed a certain amount down i think its like 35% throttle and over. are you slowly getting it up or are you going throttle to the floor each time? just an idea... also i wouldnt be going hard at all on that clutch till you brake it in...You run the risk of it grabbing to hard chipping off then glazing your flywheel from excessive heat and i figure you dont like the sound of that. i know its hard to help it sometimes lol.

Re: ACT clutch VTEC trouble

well i fixed the problem. i had midas change my oil last time b/c i wanted to try the syn. amsoil. i made the mistake of not checking the level on the dipstick after changing and when i checked the level yesterday the dipstick was dry....so either midas didnt give me 5 quarts or my engine eats oil. time will tell. so thanks for the advice 94. and chris thats not exactly true. assuming everything is working...VTEC will engage eventually no matter how much you have the throttle depressed. yes the position affects the crossover point, but it will indefinitely crossover at some point.

Re: ACT clutch VTEC trouble

Isn't Vtec set to engage at a certain factory specification? I thought it was supposed to engauge at a certain RPM? Also, the only way to change that is a tune, right?

Yes, randall, it is supposed to engage at 5200 rpm on our cars, thats why he is asking the question, and having problems.

If theres any damage to your car because of midas you should give them the midas touch of a lawsuit! Dumb fkn people...

Re: ACT clutch VTEC trouble

pretty sure your car is just eating oil because you push it alot. The more you engage vtec, the more its gonna waste. I have the same problem and i have absolutely no oil leak, so I know my cars just eating it

...I was only asking because someone said something about Vtec kicking in at a certain depression level of the gas pedal...Why do i get the feeling that you're being an ass?

hahaha!! fo sho man.

idk about the 4th gen preludes but the 5th gen's cross over depending on throttle. if your floored or close to it yes it will cross at 5200. but if your light on the throttle and just making noise then the crossover will be delayed to a higher rpm. not sure why. anyone?
