Icon1 Pre-Buy Questions: 2001 Prelude

I'm looking at buying a base model Prelude with about 95k miles on it, manual transmissions. Here are my questions:

1. How much HP/TQ can the stock internals handle before they need to be upgraded?
2. How much HP/TQ can the stock transmission handle before it needs to be upgraded?
3. I just sold my 2004 Infiniti G35X. That car was extremely expensive as far as power-to-price ratio. It did not respond very well to bolt-on mods. How is it with the 5th-Gen Preludes? Is there a lot of untapped power available?
4. Any common issues I should be aware of? (Passenger side window not rolling up all the way, trannys blowing up at 100k, fender rust, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

IMO get a SH instead of a base unless you plan on getting a LSD trans. 5th gens don't respond well to bolt-ons and you have to go down to ODBI for tuning. You will need a complete build and turbo to get the kind of power you had in your G35.

I thought the ATTS system in the SH wasn't compatible with a LSD?

Would a 4th gen motor be any more responsive?

The ATTS in an SH takes place of a LSD essentially. I mean LSDs are mechanical and the ATTS system is completely computerized. But you should get one or the other if you want the handling and since it's way easier to find yourself a SH, I would say get an SH.

Re: Pre-Buy Questions: 2001 Prelude

Stock block can handle up to around 400 whp (however when reaching the higher numbers it tends to start causing issues w/stock axels/trans) and the head should be good between 5-6. My motor has h22a4 head on it that was just rebuilt (new springs/ratainers/valves, basic P&P) when I bought it. The guy that built my motor gave me these specs. He knows his sh!t. He's been around ludes for years now. He's actually in the process of doin a V6 (J35)swap in his 5G. Just some background. But anyway...if ur gonna build motor focus on bottom end. Block will need re-sleeved if u plan on any high HP numbers n forged internals are definately reccommended. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong w/any of this.

Re: Pre-Buy Questions: 2001 Prelude

no offense to us luders but why would u downgrade from a g35 to a prelude?? LSD and ATTS is two totally different things you cant run an LSD tranny with ATTS. Your better of going for a 350Z or something of that nature why go 4 cylinder when you were already going 6, and boosting a Z would have a lot more potential than and H22 IMO.
