Which oil to use? 5W-30 or 10W-30?

I'm wondering which viscocity oil I should use. My car is at 100,000 miles, I know the oil cap and manual say 5W-30 but I've heard 5th gens run better with 10W-30, although no one could explain why. I'm just wondering what everyone here thinks, and what they run 5W-30 or 10W-30?

I always use 5w-30 and my car has almost 130k. Not sure why a fifth gen would run better with 10w.

Re: Which oil to use? 5W-30 or 10W-30?

if you use 5w30 and it doesn't use much oil stick with it... if you have a little wear and it's using a significant amount, consider the 10w30 (won't make much difference as 30 is the working weight... 5w is thinner on startup, which is good from a wear perspective...)... I was running 20w50 in my h23 when I got swapped (226K), but it was using more than a quart every 1000 miles (fried rings thanks to previous owner)... I don't recommend this, lol... I run 5w30 in the h22a and use very little...

Theoretically 10w30 is slightly more stable than 5w30 and less prone to viscosity breakdown (the less difference between the 2 weights the more stable).

good luck.

Re: Which oil to use? 5W-30 or 10W-30?

lol, it makes sense to me! maybe I should use some punctuation other than "..."

...and yeah... warmer climates/summer = 10w30 should be a-okay... still no need to use other than what it calls for, if what it calls for (5w30) is working (had to throw in another weird sentence with parentheses).
