I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

sup guys, past few weeks i've been in the process of buying a lude. it's a 1999 base trim level, automatic. I test drove the car, went down to see it more than once, got it inspected by tires plus; and the day we got the title transfered i was driving it home, and something went very wrong..

The gear seemed to have shifted to neutral, and the speed wouldnt go up, if i accelerated to about 4, or 5 thousand rpms, then it would move, almost as if the clutch on a manual would be slipping, then the check engine light came on? i had a friend pull the code and he said it was something like a auto transmission control (i think control module or a control actuator) i dont know... but HElp me please! this guy just ripped me the hell off!! its a lemon! HE TOlD me AND SHOWED ME A RECIEPT WITH TRANSMISSION WORK DONE ON IT WITHIN THE last 1,0000 MIles! what do i do? i gave him a cashiers check for 4,800 and 200hundred cash. the craigsist post is here... 99' Honda Prelude Black Auto!!!
i am suppose to meet him on sunday since he said he has some car parts i can buy from him for cheap so thats my only hope of confronting him. but anyone that knows about the lemon law plz contact me??? i dont know if i can provide my phone number on here, i havent read through the stickys quite yet, since i am new to the forum, but i am going to be running around all day today trying to save my money, so if someone can please please please call me and tell me what i should do then i will be greatly thankful. i am a college student, and that money was very hard earned and had been saved up for a very long time. this guy basically stole it from me. if anyone knows about the lemon law, or knows how i should go about putting a "stop" to a cashiers check, then please let me know and if u know nothing about that stuff and have a good idea of how to confront this guy, please dont hesitate to call, my number is 763-439-5206, i have texting too if u can text or call, i wont bite i promise. i need help...

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

Yeah, all the autos are basically lemons. You really should have bought a manual or if you are disabled and need an auto, you should have bought a different model car. One that isn't so infamous for auto failures.

Personal sale you are probably stuck. Consumer laws in this regard though I would imagine vary from state to state. Best to check with a local consumer advocacy group or similar.

What exactly was the receipt for? A rebuild? Possible that the work is still under warranty, although that might only apply to the previous owner.

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

well shoot. and no im not disabled.
The receipt says the owner supplied the part? so i called the place up and they said they knew exactly which car i was talking about and they had put in a USED tranny supplied by the owner of the vehicle.

But they said after they replaced it for him, he brought the car back to them after driving it for 50 miles. He complained about the same thing as i did, so they test drove it all around, and the problem didnt show up, sort of like how one would feel better when going to the doctor.

The mechanic said to bring it down to the shop and they will try to locate the problem...

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

the problem is your auto, there known to fail, its best to swap to 5spd, if not cut your losses and sell the car as is, unless you have money to swap another auto and then sell it...

I posted in your welcome thread (asked the same things) but for Minnesota (guessing based on CL ad) it appears the only laws pertain to cars sold "new". Checks can be canceled at your bank but only before the check clears. Before that though, talk to the shop and see if there's a warranty for the work done. If they didn't do it right and it's still under warranty (so long as what went wrong involves parts covered by their warranty) they might fix it up for free, as long as you have the paperwork. Best of luck, let us know how it goes.

used is usually as is.
just tell him the car is a rock right now and inquire about recent repairs.
was his adress on the old title...always wright that stuff down.
there is probably no waranty if he suplied the part.
get it to the shop and have it inspeced. if your reving to 4k before it catches then the forward clutch probably wore out. he knew it was coming if that was the case....

remember the chineese symbol for crisis and opportunity are the same thing, its all about how you handle it.

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

i did the samething man, I found that the speed sensor was out and the timeing belt was missing sevral teeth, Check those fist before spending alot of money and time, I ended up droping an h23 vtec in mine after my motor blew.. also clean the entire throttle body, Iac value and fast idle value too. if you haven't checked these they tend to contribute to the problem.. i bet he didn't change the timeing belt or if he did put it on like a tooth off, the guy i got my car from off craigslist said the same stuff, and when i checked it was old as hell with no teeth left on it. and most people never change the speed sensor till it's out so it would deff help by changeing it, that will usually go out on an auto before the entire tranny.. unless you try to dog the **** out of it??
but if no speed on gauge than deff speed sensor, it will feel like the tranny is really messed up , i just had that prob ..

yeah the timing belt was done at 120,000 miles, at a shop which i called and its legit. as far as the valves and throttle body goes, i will check those once i figure out whats going on with this car, if im keeping it or not, u know?

unless you see for yourself can't take anyones word for it, sometings wrong cause it's not running. soo.. my timeing belt had like five teeth on it Foreal, it was amazing, and it felt like the tranny was slipping bad like a MT instead of auto like mine was., **** if you had to you could buy a Almost new motor for like 1000 and have a bad ass new lude, i mean i think you should keep it regardless just try to get some money back for the bull**** he said about the ride, and call it square, I just love lude's.. i got like 8,700 in my 94 si prelude myself .. but it's got like 30k on it and like new. i'd never sell it..

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

Most likely the pressure plates are gone in the trans. I replaced my tranny, solenoids, fluids, and the problem now is an electrical transmission problem. I get check engines for solenoid B, replaced it with a new one, then it will just pop back up again. There is really nothing you can do about these auto transmission...

Damnit!... any suggestions on how to get my money back? i am willing to lose 500 to a 1000 bucks, cuz of my stupidity. But i am not willing to have this 5,000 dollar junk sitting in the driveway, or spending another dime on it, cuz i know it will be a waste of time. and i have no money.

Cashiers cheques clear instantly right? I would imagine he ran straight to the bank and cashed it to and I doubt he would want to trade back.

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

ludes come dime a dozen. your best bet is to take your losses. Purchas the repair manual for it and start to think of how you can fix it. anytime you buy a used car your buying somebody elses problems. i recently perchased a lude myself and have had to do major repairs such as timing, vss controller and now the o ring on the oil filter housing. Remain calm and usually it's something you can do yourelf. if not you can always put it back on craigslist and antother enthusiats will take it off you hands. Good luck!!!

Re: I bought a bad car! i got tricked! plz PZ, help!

hey I know how you feel. I just bought myself a lude a month ago and now its in the shop cause it needs a new motor. I wish I could have went back in time and bought myself something else. I definitely do NOT have the capital to do an engine swap. I put it back on the market hoping I won't lose too much. I'm still debating whether I want to lose 1000 and sell it. Or lose about 2000 and get and engine swap. Tough choice for me cause I don't have any money. But I think I'm going to suck it up, stop pulling my hair out of frustration and cough up $2k and get it done. At least if you get your tranny fixed you know your car is good to go. If you sell it you might buy another lemon.

You have 0 chance of getting anything back from the guy, he said "it has had tranny work done" and yes it HAD tranny work done, he didnt say it was good work, just work, the judge will tell you to gtfo.
