Bumping a thread an hour after you make it doesn't achieve anything...other than making you look impatient.

But yes, it sounds like you've stripped the thread on the stud.

Re: bolt on valve cover wont come off. please help!

you beat me to colin, but yea, sounds like the threads are stripped. the torque value on the valve cover bolts are really low, so they are commonly stripped. can you see any threads on the bolt yet? if you got a pair of vice grips, clamp then down on the head of the boat and turn and pull. also might help, if there is a space between the bolt and the valve cover, pry it up with a screw driver as you try and turn it with a ratchet. if you can't get them out that way, you're threads are stripped. if you do manage to get it out, look at the threads on the bolt, if there are any. if the threads are destroyed or if you see any metal shavings/strips of metal in the threads of the bolt, you will need to to tap and die set to re tap the bolt or hole.

best of luck with getting the damn thing off

when you do I recommend picking up a torque wrench Torque wrench - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

will save you a lot of trouble in the future... no more over tightening things :P
