What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

It's an automatic with about 90,000 miles on it. I noticed it burns a little oil, and was wondering what would be the right kind to add to it

Re: What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

should be in the manual

but iirc 5W30

maybe add some of the crap for high mileage cars if it's burning a lot of oil (my mind is failing me atm and I forget the name) ah wait, like that lucas oil crap, it helps a bit.

ps...

Re: What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

mobil 1 high mileage synthetic oil. thats what my friend uses on his 97 auto(fail)

*idk about adding, it would be best to just go do a full oil change and stick to that oil that you used. 5w30*

Re: What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

It's all opinion, but I'd run regular Mobil 1, or Mobil 1 EP. I wouldn't use the Mobil 1 HM formula. In my Accord, it didn't seem to run as well as the regular one. Through extensive research on my part, it also almost never seemed necessary to have to make the switch to High Mileage oil, regardless of the odometer readings. You can also try a semi-synthetic. I find Valvoline's MaxLIfe to be extremely good. I use 10W-30, but you can also use 5W-30. Don't forget to use a quality oil filter such as Purulator PureOne, Mobil 1 EP, HAMP, or OEM filter!

Castrol GTX High Mileage worked awesome in my girlfriend's Civic. It even burned less oil than Mobil Clean 5000.

Re: What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

My suggestion would be to read the other oil threads on here, then head to www.bobistheoilguy.com and read there. Once you've read all that, then you'll be edumacated enough to make your own decision.

Then report back and tell us what you did and why

Ironically, on my Accord, the high mileage formula burned more oil than the regular Mobil 1 formula.

Re: What kind of oil to put in an 01 prelude?

For high quality oil I'd suggest using 5w-30 CRISCO!!!

For top performance I'd go with Virgin instead of synthetic!!!
