Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

1) is the honeycomb grille available from any of the online honda parts websites ? If so what is the parts #

2) Will using less than 93 octane harm engine ?

3) My a/c temp and fan lights are out what are the bulb numbers and is it a difficult fix ?

Thanks in advance for your answers/help

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

1. honeycomb grille was only avaliable on the 98-01 ludes. they pop up on ebay every once in a while
2. yes it will. 91 or higher
3. i honestly dont know. i know theres a writeup about changing the bulbs in the climate. you could also take it apart and bring a bulb into the dealership

^^^ yup what he said, for the bulb yeah just remove that plastic piece sourrounding the radiso and its easy just to take a part and then see inside.and take it out and should say it on the bulb itself if not take it somewhere and they can look it up for you.

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

Honda Automotive Parts

The pictures are generic, but I type this in for a 98 Honda Prelude should be the grill your looking for.

less than 93 won't harm it short term per say but you will not like all the pinging and knocking sounds. Its worth the little extra it cost to go 93.

"Pinging and knocking sounds" are more than sounds.

Well I guess it more like valve rattle then I guess. Try putting that lower octane in and drive up a mountain pass, uphill you'll see what I mean.

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

ya theres a lot of debate as to whether going with cheaper fuel will hurt your car.you will hear both sides but since owning my lude i have ran a total of 2 full tanks with regular unleaded and i felt no ill effects from it.having said that i do normally put in 93 and my car is now tuned to run that but im sure if you run unleaded for a reasonably short period of time you will be fine but you should still use premium for the longevity of the car.

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

its not really a debate. it's a fact you have to run 91 or higher. says so on the cap, on the dash and in the manual. my advice, just man up and pay the extra $2 a tank lol

just because something "works", doesn't make it right.

premium fuel only means 91 octane minimum. good luck with your "new" lude.

also check the fuse for those lights that are out, it would be a freak coincidence that all of those bulbs burned out.

LOL, he's quoting himself. Anyways I've ran cheap fuel before, just made sure I didn't use vtec. I didn't get any knock issues. Lower octane fuel just means it will combust under a lower presure when compared to higher octane. The problem is that the H22A is a high compression engine. I use high octane because I drive fast most of the time.

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

the car has a knock sensor that retards the timing in the event of detonation. Pings are bad but the sensor in the block protects itself in the event of that detonation. so no ball of flames! but u lose horsepower too.

It's true. No damage to engine but you will feel the loss of HP, or at least I do. Reason enough to use high octane for me.

The gauge cluster says unleaded premium fuel only so idk why u would want to put a lower grade fuel in the car no matter how old it is, the car will run like **** if u dont put at least mid grade in it and u will eventually get a knock

Re: Just bought a 97 and have few ?'s

Yeah it depends on elevation? I guess as we have 93 octane around here too, near the Blue Ridge Mountains. I think I heard it somewhere on the forum that lower elevations have 91 octance for their hi test, as I think when I was down in Fayetteville, NC they had 91 at most gas stations, but I usually put the 105 or was it 108 octane (in my 01 ZX6R) out Skibo Rd. at the intersection of Rosehill Rd.? I can't remember.

Who said anything about being a lawyer? maybe the idiot comment does apply. I simply quoted a word that is commonly used to describe a function. If I wanted to quote you, I would have done so. Paraphrase? maybe. Nobody cares about your posts on other sites, that has nothing to do with this forum. Have anything else to say? Feel free to PM me and stop clouding up this kids thread.
