I'm thinking about building a Prelude

Ok so I found a local Prelude and thinking about getting it. The only thing is it doesn't have a hood, axles, exhaust system, transmission, or a engine.

Here is a link to it.
***Honda Prelude 1997***

He wants a grand for it and I was thinking it would be worth it.

How much would it probably cost to get the parts for it. I'm wanting to do a manual swap and get a JDM H22 put in it. I'll probably want to paint it too, nothing real fancy just a color like midnight blue.

I'm not that mechanically inclined so I'll probably will have to have someone either help build it with me or build it for me.

Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Re: I'm thinking about building a Prelude

welcome to pz, your new and i dont think i welcomed you so there, thats done

the car looks pretty clean, i guess it would be a project
on the other hand, could you buy a h22a prelude thats perfect and clean as that for the money you would spend on doing what you are?

if not, try and bargain everything and everyone,
if you went up to that guy selling the lude and said heres 800$ thats all i have take it or leave it, im sure youll get the car, it dosent have an engine for christ sake, tell him youll never see him again,

i dont know how dollars work over there, so i cant tell you if its good or not, all i can say is the above, have a think about it bud

Re: I'm thinking about building a Prelude

you can get a good condition engine + tranny for 1K, then everything else dirt cheap, prolly $2-300 for all of it.

it would def be a good learning experience for you if you decide to do it yourself/with friends. since it won't be your daily driver, you can take your time with it, do it right, and learn as much as you can. so if you take that path, it'll def be worth it.

but if you pay someone to do all of this, it def won't be worth it since it would cost about 5K when all is said and done.

Re: I'm thinking about building a Prelude

Thank you both. I really want to build it myself but never building a car before I really don't know what I'm getting myself into. The guy my mom's seeing has built cars before but it has been along time since he has so he might be able to help me. If I do buy it you'll probably see more alot more on this forum.

Re: I'm thinking about building a Prelude

if you have someone in your close family that has car experience, i think it would be a good deal. definately put a 5 spd in it, i very close to hate the auto in my car. if you get it, i hope you enjoy it. GOOD LUCK!

Re: I'm thinking about building a Prelude

You must be close to me, I saw that on my craigslist today aswell. Have you seen the car in person? Taking one pic at that angle is very hard to judge what the other side and front really look like or if anything has been hacked/cut on. Hows the inside? IMO I would just buy Invadertrax 4th gen on here for sell right now and ditch the surprises.

They have to move and can't take the car, wait em out and offer $500 I wouldn't buy it for anymore than that. Try looking for a H22A4 your looking at probably $1000 just for the motor, add it up then look for a Prelude that already has all this and you'll be in the same price I bet you.

Yeah I'll probably do this unless the body is real nice. Then I'll probably try to talk them down to $800 and get it when I go look at it.
