Hard to shift to 1st 3rd and 5th

So today i take off driving and 1st seems a bit hard to get into gear but it goes. Get downt he road a bit and go to shift into 3rd and i had to push realy hard. Second and 4th gear felt fine, then i shift to 5th gear and its the same thing. I left it in second gear and ride a little bit down the road and it pops outa gear into neutral. Not a few minutes later i leave it in 3rd as im riding and it pops out also. I get to a parking lot and turn the car off and start doing shifts. Shifting to 1st 3rd and 5th i can hear a noise coming from the front right close to in front of the dash board. My 2nd gear 4th gear and even reverse feel just like normal when i shift to them. It has no affect on the feel of the gears when driving if i hold it in there, just hard to shift to the gears. Is this a bad shift cable? Is it ok to drive it or should i leave it parked till i get it fixed?

Re: Hard to shift to 1st 3rd and 5th

So should i drive the car or should i let it sit? And how much would you guess im looking at to get this replaced/fixed?
Edit: should i look at having a new/used tranny put in? would that be easier more cost effective than having the old one fixed?
Also yoyu sure this could not be the shift linkage?
Ok Sorry i gota Edit again: I am experiencing NO grinding when switching gears...at all...this was not a gradual thing that happend...it was fine one day then this 2 days later. I just dont think its synchros after reading some more things around the net. It seems like a bent/stretched shift linkage. Please feel free to ask questions i dont WANT to get a new tranny i want to pay this car off before i drop more cash on it!

Re: Hard to shift to 1st 3rd and 5th

Could be synchros, but its possible your pressure plate has lost its spring. How long has it been since a new clutch kit installed?

You said it was all of a sudden, my brother's 3rd gen the actual spring broke out of the housing on the pressure plate and his was very similar to your symptoms.

Re: Hard to shift to 1st 3rd and 5th

Ive had the car over a year and i havent put in a clutch. Im not realy sure when the last time one was installed to be honest. The clutch seems to work fine for all the gears. Ive dropped it off at my mechanic and he will look at it tomorrow. Ill keep ya'll informed.

the butterfly valve for the intake was not attached and had somehow slipped down and was in the way of shift linkage
