Need help before I buy!

I'm looking at a 99 prelude with 140,000klms its got triptronic and never been winterdriven other mods too....I need some feedback from people that have these cars and kids. I have a 5 month old and I know the rearfacing seats do not fit behind the passenger seat cuz my GF is 5'10. Now how well does a front facing seat fit. I know it fits but is it good enough? I had a 99 Chrysler intrepid with 210,000klm and it got totalled and i can get the lude as a replacement.
What are major issues with these cars?
All impute will be greatly appreciated thanks ppl

well to avoid any headaches. dont get it, unless you have the time and money to do a 5spd swap. these are notorious for having transmission problems. thats the main issue.

If you want it that bad and you don't mind the trans then take 75$ and the car to a local mechanic to look at it. You won't regret it!

(The rims are cool and expensive looking, but IMO leave them for the old school Chevy's)

If you plan on having anything more than a backpack in the back seat, I don't think your experience with the car will be very fruitful..
The cars themselves though can withstand war. If you could see the pics of mine from when I first got it, you'd understand. Engines are solid pieces of mechanical bliss.

Its a nice car but man, do what I did and wait it out till the kid is big enough to crawl in and out of the back seat by himself. Otherwise it is a real pain in the ass trying to get a sleeping baby out of the back seat of a prelude. Plus its an auto. Wait and try to find a standard in a few years. For now, look into more of a minivan type vehicle. lol. no jk.

Re: Need help before I buy!

K there was a brand new triptronic transmisson put in before he parked it in the fall. I am looking for a car that will last me and is 4 cyl. I aint getting stuck with a Cavalier,Sunfire,Neon,Accent...I can go on.......3500$ for this car is in my opinion a steal. Its a friend of the family's sons car.

This has me sold "The cars themselves though can withstand war"

I dont beat my vehicles anymore. I plan on driving this normal. I dont wanna race. I dont wanna show off. Occasional quick take off maybe..No trying to smoke the tires.
If you would see how my baby is you would say. Ok your good......I play 5 Finger Death Punch on 22 with my surround 30 is max. He falls asleep. Got him used to noise from the get go

Re: Need help before I buy!

Well it's definitely a pretty car. The body kit is a bit chunky but it's not as godawful as most I've seen. You should still research prices/values though-I dunno how many miles 144000KM is, but a '99 Prelude with 130000Mi is barely worth $4K in good condition according to edmunds.com's review, and if you consider that the tranny has already been replaced, how was the car treated before that? Cuz it's still gonna have the same engine and suspension I'm assuming..

Quick take-off occasionally...not in the auto my friend.. BUT take it for a spin around the block, it may suit you just fine. I have two friends here in town with 5th gens, one auto and one 5sp and they both love them to death.

Re: Need help before I buy!

take your time with it to find out how it was taken care of and if it had regular maintenances etc. you dont want to be stuck with a car that you have to put even more money into it..its a pain =/

Re: Need help before I buy!

In my honest opinion...

If you have a baby a Prelude is not a good car for you. Not to discourage you away from the Prelude but it is just not a good idea. Sounds more like you need a crv, element, pilot, mdx, or rdx... Maybe even a ridgeline. If you have something else more family friendly though then go for it.

Re: Need help before I buy!

the transmission may have been rebuilt, but not many people know how to do it properly. if you truly trust the mechanic and the friend of yours then go for it man. Also, it seems like you got a good head on your shoulders, being smart not to drive the crap out of it. So if its something you truly can work with, go for it and besides its an eyecatcher nowadays since not many people drive them.

Re: Need help before I buy!
