Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

the title pretty much says it all, after looking online for some answers, there were too many to pinpoint what the main problem would be. So when I press down the clutch (disengage) the car rpm's drops and dies unless I give it gas. I've stopped driving it since it started doing this, and it currently is with a mechanic. I just want some ideas to reassure myself and hopefully find a good clue as to what causes this. The only mod on the car is a Exedy stage 1 clutch, flywheel may be stock.

I dont want to screw your thread up by post whoring but my 97 does the same thing, well almost does. Idle drops to 300rpm for me and the car starts to shake badly like it is going to die. Please let me know when they find out what the problem is... thank you.

Re: Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

Does it die when the clutch is pressed and not in gear?

Re: Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

Yeah, as soon as I (or we who are having the same problem) press the clutch in, it dies, unless I give it gas. Now I know that there is a stage 1 clutch installed, if it was improperly installed it could be the problem. Keep up the responses, thanks.

you're not jacking if you have the same problem, let me know how you handle your problem. It's getting warm and I want to drive my SH badly, not this POS boxy-corolla.

Re: Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

not sure, but i'm going to go ahead and get a new clutch and bearing and see if that is what helps, I drove it today and the clutch pedal did get stuck when i pressed it down. So when i get the clutch done i'll make sure it's bled properly too.

Re: Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

ok still no luck in finding the actual solution. Here is what has been done so far, new clutch, cleaned iacv, transmission change, atts fluid change, new battery, new map sensor, oil change and still did not find the true solution. Any suggestions? going to try another sensor change soon.

Re: Pressing on Clutch causes car to die

no master and slave cylinder were not changed, but here's the bad news. I was driving the car yesterday just trying to break the clutch in, started hearing a rattling the POW smoke started coming from exhaust and motor, now it's dead. Not sure what it was but it's getting looked at today. F@**ing sucks. Oh btw, never even pushed it passed 4500 rpm.
