Motor and Tranny swap questions.

The motor is bad in my 1997 prelude sh. I would like to know what year h22's will fit in there when I go to buy another and am I able to swap an lsd trans into that car. Theres one for sale locally by me and I just wanted to ask you guys so I could get some info before I start buying things for my car so I can get the right stuff.

97 and up H22A4 will be a direct drop in, anything else is going to be OBD1 and will require extra work cus a few sensors are going to be different. any h22 tranny with lsd will fit in your prelude, sensor n axles are all the same.

Re: Motor and Tranny swap questions.

What I plan on doing is building the new motor if I buy the one locally I found, but Im wanting to try making it to 300 hp and I would not like to go turbo at all but would you have any suggestions? How strong are these motors internally? or should I plan on getting new pistons and everything?

Re: Motor and Tranny swap questions.

Buy a motor from 97-01 and ur good bc they're OBD2!!!
If you buy a motor 96 and under or a JDM motor then you have to MOD a few things bc those are OBD1!!!

I jus got a JDM motor and had to convert to OBD1 dizzy and my tranny is off of a 96 Lude!!!

300hp na is very very very diffcult to reach. pistons and cams are the main things not including supporting mods. will need a fully build head with a good valve train, stock will not support anything higher then a stage 1 cam. h22 have wut they call FRM cylinder walls so you will not be able to run any pistons unless you get your block sleeved. if want around 300hp consider a stock engine with some ARP bolts and run a super charger. should get you around 260hp and 250 torque to the ground. basically 300 na will cost you at least 5k if you buy everything used. and a supercharger will get you there for half the price.

Re: Motor and Tranny swap questions.

To answer you question the 5th Gen Prelude have the same motor SH or Base, ANY H22A4 would work. Transmission is only difference and it has atts. thats it I did a Auto Swap to 5spd on my 97 base prelude

Re: Motor and Tranny swap questions.

Actually the ATTS block is different. If you are also getting a new trans then that doesn't matter I guess, but a base block won't work with an ATTS transmission.

Re: Motor and Tranny swap questions.

an SH has a different transmission then a base. The base has a basic 5spd, while a sh has a atts and a altered 5spd transmission. to change fluids you must do it in both locations. from what i recall its ATF in the atts block and MTF in the 5spd. Just buy the motor from any H22A4 all the same. OBD2
