Questions on a H22

i just bought a 1997 prelude sh. I am new to hondas because I am a muscle car guy normally but after I drove my first vtec I just had to get one. I would like to know what types of mods are the best for these motors and some good sites to buy parts for them. I like to use ebay but I know a lot of times theres just crap for sale on there. Well I would really aappreciate if you guys could help me out. thanks

Re: Questions on a H22

basic performance bolt ons would be a cold air intake instead of the restrictive factory air box and aftermarket exhaust to let it breathe better. use the search function up top, VERY handy

p.s. welcome to the forum

Re: Questions on a H22

Welcome mate

The H22 responds reasonably well to simple mods, but not as well as some other engines. The first ones most do are an intake, high flow cat and exhaust and a tune using a piggyback computer such as a AFC Neo or VAFC. Typically these mods gain around 10% in whp, depending of course on how clever your tuner is and the dyno used.

If you wanna spend more, stage 1 cams are a good mod for street use and a header (not DC, Megan or any other ebay crap, be prepared to pay high $ for a good header as most on the market are simply reproductions of the OEM header but in stainless).

Have a look around the Member's Rides - Honda Prelude Forum forum and see what you like. There's ample options for both boosted or NA applications.

BALANCE SHAFT REMOVAL, will cost around 140 for the parts from Kaizen Speed. do a search on it. 2 shafts in your engine gone, free up alot of mechanical horse power. also if you plug the holes for the blance shaft bearings your oil pressure will increase a good amount too.

Re: Questions on a H22

well I already have a full exhaust with a header and an aem cold air. The car also has a hondata ecu which I dont know anything about if someone could maybe give me some more info on that brand. It also has a stage 5 clutch. If i were to do a cam job on the car how long does it usually take? I do all of my own work and I know what im doing for the most part but I just dont know too much about these motors.
