help!! HIDS as DRLS!

i have HIDS for low beams and they work fine.

now i want to have HIDS for DRL but replacing the DRL bulbs with a HID kit.

so i connected all the wires, and i turned on the car. the hid bulbs turned on for a few seconds then die. i thought it was a loose conneciton, so i unplugged the postive wire and plugged it back in (all with the car sitll on), and the bulb turns on for a few seconds nd turns off. this happened like 4 times. now the bulbs wont turn on at all. i reinstall the oem bulbs on the drl and now they wont turn on! anyone help plzzz

Re: help!! HIDS as DRLS!

IIRC (If I remember correctly for old folks like me!) the DRLs are just the high beam, running at 30% intensity. So the first thing I'd be doing is getting my multi meter out and testing to see if there was power when the ignition was on. The DRLs run from a seperate unit somewhere in the car (not sure where, waiting for a Canuck to chime in here) so if your DRL isn't working try testing that unit.

Re: help!! HIDS as DRLS!

the startup amperage on hids is higher than the normal draw of the headlght bulb. my guess is the car trying to keep the bulb at 30 percent made the ballast think the light is still powering up so it continued to draw that higher than normal amperage which toasted the wires.

you can NOT use hids with drls you gotta disable the drls

I believe it's possible since the 4th gen did came with DRL in Canada.
Check the manual, I know there's a chapter for the DRL, that way you can look at the wiring diagrams and see what you need.
