Sunroof help?

My sunroof wont open by itself unless I give it a push upwards. Does anyone
have a clue what the problem is? And also, when it starts going back its not
smooth like a window should be, it like hops or vibrates. Anything I can do to fix
this?

Re: Sunroof help?

the motor isn't bad, you just need to put some marine grease on the rails and you should be good to go. This is a common thing to happen

Re: Sunroof help?

Marine grease is a little heavy isnt it? I would recomend a silicone based spray lubricant. There was another thread last week about this very same thing.

Re: Sunroof help?

yea it's heavy and it's what's best to use for the sunroof, cause if it gets wet, it's not going to wash away as easily as a spray lubricant

Re: Sunroof help?

Well just to save me a few bucks as I'm a poor college student I'm gonna use the silicon spray when I get home today and I'll let you guys know how that works.

Marine Grease will Damage the plastic and rubber pieces that comprise most of our sun roofs ability to slide.
It is a Petroleum Based product! NOT Good.

Click Here for the MSDS On Marine Grease(s)

The Silicone spray and silicone "heavy" grease will NOT deteriorate the plastics.

Just a word to the wise.

Re: Sunroof help?

I've been using Marine Grease for years with no problems at all. I put a little on at least once a year just to keep the smooth opening. I know some peoples will bounce when opening or just not open at all.

Re: Sunroof help?

I personally use white lithium grease on the tracks.

To the OP, try that out, and if it doesn't work, report back!

Re: Sunroof help?

White lithium grease has solved all of my sunroof related issues. <bouncing, not moving, getting stuck> i usually wipe it all off as it does tend to get dirty and coat a new heavy layer every 6 months as part of my regular maint. Its worked on both my ludes 88 and 01 Plus you can use that stuff on just about all your bushings
