Icon5 Catalytic converter questions

here is my story, my car is 185k, and everything run fine including the oem cat i have on my car right now, but i found out that the oem catalytic convert really expensive at the dealer ship so i went and bought a used one as a spare with 87k on it. Here are my questions about the spare cat i have

1/ it came from an SH so would it fit on my Base model?

2/ how can i tell if this cat is good? do i have to try to shake it to see if anything rattle in side? if so i did and the cat is solid with nothing rattle inside. so are there any other way to test it ?

3/ are there any way that i can try to clean up the inside of the spare cat i have right now ?
thank you in advance guys

Re: Catalytic converter questions

1. It will work
2. No rattling is good, but other than that a lot is at play here. I recently removed 2 brand new Mangaflow High flow converters from my lude, because I could not get either of them to stop throwing a CEL. So a cat can be completely fine and your vehicle can reject it. However this is a very uncommon occurrence on stock cats.
3. I have heard people say just run water through em and let them dry quickly but I do not think this works due to how a cat functions, but some cats do have a small mesh filter at the entrance and I suppose water would clean that mesh filter, but at the same time you would be able to see that mesh filter and know if it was blocked.

Re: Catalytic converter questions

Yes I think the cats are the same for the SH and base models. The difference is in the pipe after the header and before the cat. (different length)

I would say shaking it wouldn't hurt it, but don't let it slam the ground when trying to install it. That may break something up and cause a clog later on.

As for cleaning? I don't know how much you paid for the used cat but I bought the magnaflow hi flo, sometimes people complain that it causes a code. I was scared at first because mine did throw a code about a month after I installed it but, I didn't replace the O2 sensors and boy were they dirty. So anyhow I had the code read and it turned up as the first (bank 1?) O2 sensor was slow in responding. So I bought two Denso O.E sensors and replaced them codes gone and running great. I only paid $150 w/ shipping for the Magnaflo Hi Flo Cat.
