DIY 02 sensor Mod w/spark plug defouler

Okay I am about to order the CAT for my 97 and I can't find where I saw this write up. It was a mod using a spark plug defouler around the rear O2 sensor. I think I saw it on PO. Couldn't find it. Should have bookmarked the page. Can anyone point me in the right direction or post a link to it? Thanks

Re: DIY 02 sensor Mod w/spark plug defouler

Just be careful of it. I did it correctly and didn't throw a code without a cat, but about 6 months later I got a secondary o2 code. Still have to pull the sensor and diagnose it.

Re: DIY 02 sensor Mod w/spark plug defouler

ive done this many times on many diff hondas and never had a cel even on my 07 s2k , my 98 prelude has over 15k on it with no cat an never thrown a cel ..
its as simple as getting 2 spark plug anti foulers . take one of them drill it out to 1/2 inch ( this will be the one you thread the secondary 02 into ) then thread this one ( the drilled out one ) into the second anti fouler . so it should go like this .... secondary 02 threads into 1/2 inch drilled out anti fouler then that threads into the second anti fouler ( not drilled out ) then thread it all into the secondary 02 bung ... simple and easy ..

good luck ..

I did that a little over a year ago and have had a 2nd stream O2 DTC come up three or four times. I linked it to having other issues with the engine each time and that was setting it off (plugs, EGR, rotor). Point being that this mod works but not very well.

My point exactly. My problem may very also be the EGR and/or a coolant leak into the exhaust, I suspect an IM gasket leak.

i have had 3 diff preludes with this done not one single one in well over 50k of driving has ever tripped an o2 code . my 07 s2k would now and then trip a secondary code i think a total of 3 times in almost 30 k . the trick is to make sure you drill a perfect 1/2 inch hole . this blocks off the sides of the o2 so the only gases getting into it are through the very tip of the secondary ... this mod works very well when done properly ..
