Icon8 my car revlimiter at 7k wtf?

i love my lude and all but its not fun redlining at 7k.. i ripped it in first gear and the revlimiter hit at 7k. i said oooh mabee thats just first lemme try 2nd and my 2nd gear revlimiter hit at 7k.

well my redline starts at 7k so is that normal? shouldnt the revlimiter be after the redline? i know the h22s can push farther that 7k. and i dont think my tac is off. do you know why the rev limiter comes up at 7k and is that a normal problem for the 5th gen?

Re: my car revlimiter at 7k wtf?

no...

iirc the actual limit is 7800 rpm

what's been done to the car (mods... tuning etc) and other info (maintenance, when was the last tune up, oil change, how many miles etc) would help (though odds are I won't be able to help someone that knows how will probably jump in shortly)

Re: my car revlimiter at 7k wtf?

i just bought the car about 3 weeks ago so i wouldnt know too much about it, but i just did an oil change today and it has 111,000 miles on it.. i dont know about the tune up but the only upgrades is the aem intake, racing clutch, and performance breaks. i never redlined it after my oil change to see if that was the prolem

Re: my car revlimiter at 7k wtf?

What engine do u have? Someone might have swapped in an H23 to replaced a busted H22. H23's fuel cutoff is at 7k, H22's cutoff at 7,900 i think.

Not too bright, to rev that thing like that especially after you only had it for three weeks. Are you trying to blow it up so your parents will have to replace it?

^^well said !

is that true you gotta let the new oil wear in after oil change ? can someone back that up please, I wanna know next time I do it on my 96 civic. I always beat the crap outta her lol

and yea for your 7k limiter, could be a lot of things like H23 tune on H22, low oil level...

what rpm does Vtec pop in on your tach ? that way you can tell if your tach is off

Maybe give the oil a minute or two to get all warmed up with the rest of the engine otherwise you have to wait for oil to "wear in." ya dont think so. engine oil "wear" is what turns it black. even then technically the oil it self doesnt go bad. ever. Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, top end race cars, etc actually use recycled oil. The only thing that truely goes bad with oil and "wears" is the additive's(friction modifiers, cleaning agents and such). so i dunno where UntoTheCruel got his info, but i call some major BS on it.

but i would atleast just maybe a minute for the oil get all warmed up.

just thinkin about it, would even also think just the opposite of what he said, in that right after getting your oil changed would be the best timing to beat on your car, just because your oil(and all of the additives in it) is going to be the cleanest, freshest, strongest(however you wanna put it).

okk thanks guys. ya i deff got a h22 engine in my car and im pretty sure it doesnt have a h23 tune but im deff going to check it out. Oh yea and i dont beat on my car at all, its acctually gets pampered alot. i just wanted to know where my rev limiter is so if another tuner pulls up and wants a peice of the lude ill let em know...

ok so i got the oil change but i never cracked that vtec yet.. for some reason the car stopped making a ticking noise it did before i did the oil change so i think it was low on oil... oh yea and the tac is deff not off cuz my vtec pops hard at 5200. Weelll thanks all and yes i might be a noob to ludes but not a nuub to cars so i deff know the diff between redline and fuel cut.
:] im loveen the lude thoo!

x2

was thinkin the same

and it's sooo true dirty oil decreases performance by much, I'm about to do an oil change on my D16y7 96 civic and the oil is soooooooooooooo black & dirty, looks like it lost 15 hp.... not to mention I have to pour in about 1L every 1500 km...

but I don't know if dirty oil actually lowers rev cut...

There's a huge difference between racing in heavy traffic, and tearing up some back country roads at 3am. I don't have a track within a 100mile radius, or I'd be at it every weekend. Frown upon me all you want, but even at 100mph the random 17 year old girl I see on a daily basis texting and driving with her knee is 10x dangerous. I do my playing in the boonies without putting anyone at risk because theres hardly anyone on the road at 5pm on a Friday let alone the wee hours of the morning. Now, sorry about gettin off topic.

what would make my fuel cut well before redline. I had it cut on me at 6700 rpm while doing a pull and then VTEC just vanished. I've got oil and it was at operating temp for a while beforehand.

Nah its OBDII all stock, including the exhaust and intake. It's my fun car until I graduate college and can afford an EVO VIII MR and know my power is always there. I love my 'lude, and no offense to VTEC but I'm ready to drop this variable timing system stuff. Thats the reason I don't want an EVO IX... MIVEC.

Racing clutch? I am no Batman but that could be a broad range of combinations of correct or incorrect parts and maybe the source of your problem.
