VTEC Issue!

So my question is:

As I drive and engage VTEC @ 5200rpms and as soon as I hit around 6000rpms
my engine oil light flickers on and soon as i shift into fourth gear it goes away.
The light is intermittent and only in VTEC.

You may say low engine oil, but that is weird because I just changed my oil couple days ago and I have no leaks.

Any help or advice on what to check or maybe replace?

Thanks

Re: VTEC Issue!

check your oil level again to be sure you have enough oil, cause you might be burning oil quicker than you think. Also, have you cleaned the screen on the VTEC solenoid?

very well could be that. also (you've probably done this already but) make sure all the connections are solid. tight and clean. etc

Re: VTEC Issue!

Instead of making a new thread I'll just post in here since its the most relevant to the search I just did.My problem is similar to the OP. I've check my oil, cleaned the solenoid, but I'm not sure about the VTEC pressure switch. Anyways, heres my issue.

My '97 Prelude non-sh had an oil leak from the cam seal for at least a year and since I didn't have the time or the money to get in there and do it right I just kept an eye on it. I'm talking a slowwww leak, like you wake up in the morning and see a quarter size spot in the driveway. Well the leak started speeding up not to long ago so I bought all OEM honda cam and crank seals, water pump, timing belt.. pretty much everything I could get my hands on while doing the job. Cleaned up the solenoid, put it all back together. After not having VTEC for over a year maybe bc of low oil pressure from my leak, or a dirty solenoid it felt like a whole new machine when I got her warmed up for the first time and put my foot down. Everything was gravy for a week.

Then the other day I was getting on the interstate with no one in front of my so I nailed it, barked 'em into 2nd and as I approached 7k rpm the throttle completely cut itself on me (which scared the piss outta me btw), and I nudged her into 3rd, 4th, 5th and cruised on to work listening for anything out of the norm. Then after work I warmed it up again, stomped it, and VTEC was no where to be found in any gear... and its still gone.

I'm stumped...seems like something else would have to be wrong for the fuel to cut so early... I wasn't even near redline. Now when I nail it VTEC, doesn't engage and it just pulls (like a grandma) all the way up to redline. It sounds horrible too because instead of that deeper vtec exhaust note its the whiney pre-VTEC one the whole time.
