D4 light blinking, rebuilt tranny, intermittent

So my frined has a 2000 lude with the tiptronic automatic trans. she has had this d4 blinking light coming on intermittently. like you turn the car on and it starts blinking then turn it of then on again and it goes away. she had the tranny rebuilt a year ago and it was fine for a while then this started happening so she had them go in and look at the trans under warranty but they cant figure it out.

now, i have installed main relay kill switches on automatic hondas and if you dont turn the relay on before you start the car then you get the blinking d4/s4 light. im wondering if the main relay could be causing the problem? or if anyone else has any ideas. i've searched for this but the only answers i see are "looks like your tranny is going out" but obviously thats not the problem so what is it?

take off console cover and unbolt the neutral/saftey switch (10mm i think)without disconnecting the terminal, clean the contacts with a cottenball and alcohol, loosely bolt it back on and turn the ignition key just enough to lightup the dash. Then make sure the red park light is lit, and bolt it back into position. Should do the trick. :)

i dont think that will do the job,,

how many miles on the car?

from what i know the light indicates a malfunction in the transmission, like

the old obd1 system where you could read the trouble codes from having the

CEL blinking at you.

Re: D4 light blinking, rebuilt tranny, intermittent

funny you guys brought up this old thread. i actually solved this problem a day later, i found a blown fuse under the hood, its the fuse that controls the door chime among other things (i no longer remember what else) i believe the radio or the dash lights were controlled by this fuse as well and someone had rewired the one of those circuits to work because they didnt know how to check the fuses or something. anyways i fixed the circuit, replaced the fuse, and this eliminated the problem along with many others. hope it helps someone

Re: D4 light blinking, rebuilt tranny, intermittent

i had to several preludes with the D4 blinking. Sometimes it was the wrong oil in the tranny and sometimes it was the shifter solenoids. there were some that has broken friction discs but that car did not shift to 3rd gear.
