Re: Anyone have a Car Fax acct?

Hmmm, not too sure but someone has to pay to have that service and probably only has a limited number of checks they can get. So if I was looking for a car I would want all the checks I could get. Pay for the service yourself cheap o

Lol--was looking for a quick one cause i'm on the road. Avoiding the snow that hit our area. I looked at a few Ludes in your area but I think they had seen better days. Clean car by the way.

If you are at a dealer and they don't give you a carfax then I would just stay away.

Re: Anyone have a Car Fax acct?

I work at a dealer and I can tell you, CAR FAX IS A BUNCH OF BULL S*IT!! I get used cars in ALL the time with a clean car fax and then when i look at them I can tell a whole 1/4 panel has been changed or the fenders don't line up and the frame is all welded and banged up. Ive seen it all. I even worked on a Honda Accord once that was two totally different cars welded together right down the middle. the back under the door jams was green and the front was tan and the ft and rear VIN numbers were different and it had a perfect car fax report. There is many many many ways to get around car fax, so basically it is a waste of time and money. My suggestion is to get a repuital mechanic to give it a real good look over. Any one that knows what to look for such as over spray and what not can tell if the car has been hit before.

I agree 100% not everything that happens to a car gets reported.
I looked at a spa yellow s2000 that had a great report but the car made it obvious that the report was obviously missing some info.

Re: Anyone have a Car Fax acct?

Yea i understand you cant rely on the CarFax for actual wreck info and things like that. I feel comfortable looking for previous repair damage due to being around cars all my life and restoring old cars. I mainly want it to help verify mileage since the car is a 97 with 123,000 on it. Also i want to verify how many actual owners it has had to see if he is the 3rd owner and to see where the car has been in case its been in some Northern states that may have had it exposed to salt or possible salt water. Mainly to give me an idea of previous ownership and to get an idea anything extra i should look for or pay more attention to. Thanks for the tips guys

Thanks yeah, agreed most Ludes I have seen in this area are pretty ruff. Everyone around here watches it pretty closely, kinda scares me. People leave notes on it asking if I want to sell it. I was thinking about it with all this snow we are getting around here now. But I decided that I will just buy a truck, then I'll even be driving this even less. I've had it almost three years now and I havn't even put 10,000 on it yet.

Yeah, most times carfax is not that reiable, but it does tell you changes in ownership where its been, where it was bought. Lots of useful information. If someone can't look at a car under the hood in the truck underneath and know what they are looking at, then I recommend they always buy a new car. Because thats all they are going to do is drive and not maintain the car. For me I like the Prelude I've owned a 2nd Gen two 3rd Gen and now my 5th. I love the body lines and style. They don't make this car anymore so I have to maintain it.

Good luck on the Carfax thing. I used to have an account but it has been long gone by now.

Re: Anyone have a Car Fax acct?

Thanks guys, yea the obvious is easy to pick up as far as panels not aligned, paint mismatch, certain pieces missing or screws and bolts no longer there as well as rust. My main thing is tracking the car and mileage. I've always liked this body style Lude and was looking for one before i bought my teggy when i needed another work car. It will mostly be a daily driver but i like to keep any car clean and noticeable as well as reliable. The teggy is a great car but i want a little more power for daily driving and i think the Lude will handle better also. For speed, i have a well built mustang but in the past 7 years i've only put about 3500 miles on it. 11mpg doesnt help wanting to drive it. Thanks again and Rob, do you have a thread with mroe pics of your car. Those wheels really lok good on it. I've been searching for some threads with the green ludes, but they seem to be rare or hard to come by on forums.
