Hey everyone, I finally got around to painting my gauge rings on my 01. I just wanted to point out a few tips for you all who plan on doing this at some point. I chose to do mine in the "deep dish" style (painting the inside of the gauge cluster and the rings themselves) **PICS BELOW**

I am not going to try to act like I am an expert or anything but here are some things that really helped me.
-Take you time
-Use a white spray paint (krylon) base coat (1-2 light coats)
-I chose Duplicolor Chrome because of the gloss it leaves behind and not just a brushed silver look
-When applying the chrome spray, stay back a foot or so and only apply 2-3 coats. Too much more will make the orange peel very obvious.
-Let them dry thoroughly before handing (easily can get finger prints on them)
-When reinstalling them use a good plastic glue just to make sure they are tightly attached after breaking the posts that originally held them in.
-Again, take...your...time...The result will be well worth it!

Damn man thats hot. The painted gauge bezels was one of my first mods EVER. ITs pretty simple and as you said, provided time is taken, its worth it.

Heres what mine looked like:

Wow man those look freakin good. Nice job. I need 2 do this 2 mine. I have the rings popped out already.....im just lazy. Lol

Looks really good man, I like how you gave it that deep dish effect. Good little add-on info for the DIY.

it really only took one evening of a few hours, def worth it man. it cost 10 in total for paint! thats it!

they look great man!! I also have the rings popped out and have just been too bust to get to them, and like you said I wanna take my time and not rush it. I was gonna do them silver, but after seeing yours...I may go with chrome also. I was just going to paint the rings, but I really like the deep dish look! What did you do, just tape up the the rest of the bezzel and spray?

great man. thank you. What I did was cut out pieces of flash cards to cover the inside of the gauge hole. then on the inside I put paint tape everywhere I didnt want over spray on. then taped a plastic bag around the whole thing to keep more over spray out. I hope this helps man. i should have taken pics

Well I did it!! I think yours came out a little cleaner. I was never a pro in the paint dept. But they look alright and it is still a huge improvement. Here are some pics of the process. DEEP DISH Baby!

^ that write up is not a good way to get those rings off, you will break them trying to get them off that way, the unit needs to be completely disassembled so that they posts that hold the rings in can be broken off on the back side. If you were to slip you could crack the ring, or worse, hit your needle and need a new cluster. I recommend this step by step
