Icon8 Cylinder #2 rings going out ...ugh

So my compression test's on the lude from #1-4
160-112-160-160
Wet test on #2 went up to 175.
So i guess i got some rings going out and just hoping i can get some more time out it. Dont realy want to spend the money for a new engine and swap right now. Guess all the cylinder #2 misfires has something to do with this. Going to have a valve lash adjustment done wednesday.

why dont you just pull the head off, and check the cylinders if none of them have scratches deep enough to catch ur fingernail, re ring, new bearings and slap it all back together. that shouldnt cost you more than a couple hundred.

i dont have the mechanical knowledge or time/space/tools to do the work myself or i would try that. i would have to pay some one to do it for me, and i would hate to pay them to take it apart only to need alot more work. the guy who owned the car before me works at the shop im taking it to for the valve adjustment. Ill try to see what he and the guy who owns the shop says about it.

Simple fix!

buy a can of seafoam pull out ur #2 spark plug and pour enough sea foam in there to cover the piston and then some then put the plug back in and hand tighten let it sit for half the day then do it again. next day put it all back together properly and run the vehicle then check compression again..... did it work?

the sea foam is supposed to eat up the carbon deposits and free the rings. it worked wonders on my old jetta!

I hope your serious about that. I've never heard that before. Has anyone else tried this?

well if the problem is seized rings then that should help if not fix your problem. if the rings are cracked bent or missing... it wont help

ok well did some searching and well i guess i will have to go get me some seafoam again. thanks for the input ive never heard that before but its great to know and its worth the try. now time for some more TF2!

Ok got the seafoam and put some in #1 and 2. Figure I'll do all four cylinders while I'm at it. Ofcourse I had to leave 2 of my old plugs at work, so I'm just doing two at a time.

im not positive that putting the plugs back in is super important but i figured it would keep the seafoam from evaporating since its petrol based (i think?)

well i didnt want my iridium's in there when i start the car up after the seafoam has been in the cylinders. so im using my old plugs

Ok well tested bad cylinder after seafoam and didn't go up any. Guessing it's cracked.

Does the engine being warm make a diffrence in compression numbers? First time I tested engine was cold and I got above numbers. This time around I let it warm up to burn all the seafoam out and #2 was 125, but others were around 175ish.

yes it makes a HUGE difference. things (metal) expand when they're warmed up, so once the piston rings expand they make a better, tighter seal, which allows each cylinder to hold more compression.

you should always do a compression test on a COLD motor, that way it gives you the worst-case-scenario. if you do it on a warm motor it'll potentially give you false readings since everything has expanded.
