Re: New Clutch/Flywheel today

To break in the clutch just drive it. I believe break in is about 500mi so dont beat on it for at least 500 miles. I would baby it untill it is broken in because it would suck to wreck a new clutch.

Re: New Clutch/Flywheel today

500 miles is usually recommended. literally, you hafta baby it. no launching, feathering, power shifting/shifting fast, racing, or even heel-toe'ing. i did 800-1000 just to be safe. about to hit 50K on my exedy stg 1/fidanza

there are no requirements to add a lightweight flywheel and stage 1 clutch...and the lightwieght flywheel will not give u a "noticable" difference

Wow, 1st post and already spoutin Incorrect info. I got a lightweight flywheel installed also. You WILL notice a difference. Quicker revs is the most noticable difference.

ya i know right. i personally havent driven mine yet. but i have driven other cars with them, (both before and after having them in the car) and i can say theres a huge difference. i'd say probably one of the largest gains for any given part.
GAHH i Miss my lude!! 6 more months til i get to see her

That's great, will it be waiting for you to break in when you get home or will someone be breaking it in for you? If someone breaks it in for you then when you get home you can whale on it! I'm putting a replacement engine in a 98 and since the engine is out, kind of was a no-brainer to replace it. Put an XTD stage 2 clutch and flywheel in.

ya it should be already broken in by the time i get back. if not it'll be close. just depends on how much my friend drives it.

and nice. your going with a XTD clutch??? goodluck, i almost got one just cuz they were pretty cheap. but after reading reviews and such about them, i heard they terrible. think if i remember right one guy even said he had pieces of the clutch material chillin in the bell housing. like chunks of it.

Geez I hope the clutch is good, it's interesting, I read a bunch of bad stuff about the Fidenza flywheel and stayed away from it. Just goes to show that someone will have had problems with a product somewhere along the line.

I have read a few bad reviews lately on fidanza flywheels, but compare that to the hundreds of good reviews and it makes me take the bad reviews with a grain of salt.

I may be mistaken but I remember reading that fidanza flywheels are not one piece flywheels and ACT are one piece and thus superior. Could be marketing BS but something to potentially look into.

Edit: Act flywheels are "One Piece Forged Chrome-Moly Construction That is Stronger And More Durable Than Billet Steel"

Fidanza is made of 3 different metals - 1)heavy-duty 6061 T6 aluminum 2)Friction surface is made from 1045 steel 3)1050 heat treated steel ring gear

I'm no metallurgist so you be the judge. Again it may be marketing but Act seems to have my money when the time comes unless anyone else has anything to add.

Re: New Clutch/Flywheel today

Problems people were having were with the teeth, which as said are pressed on, vs. a single solid piece. Have to wonder if these people tried to crank the car accidentally whilst running? Pressed on teeth would definitely not handle that as well. Fact is if you want the lightest flywheel available then it will be aluminium with pressed on teeth.

As for ebay clutches. Suppose it depends if you are doing the work yourself or not. If you are paying for labour, then why risk a cheap clutch? If you are doing the install yourself, then I guess it isn't that big of a deal if you have to redo it sooner rather than later.

ya agree with you about the flywheel, but as far as ebay clutches? ya wouldnt ever buy one. they may be cheap, but i've heard some horror stories about them. like shattering the clutch disk and ****ing the fly up.
i would much rather pay the lil but extra and get a piece from a known and trusted company. specially with something as important as a clutch.
