Compression h22a4

What should compression be at in an h22a4. Im asking because I think mine may be a little low 185 across 3 and 175 on the other. What should it be at?

Re: Compression h22a4

its more important that the cylinders are within 10% of each other, rather than going for the highest numbers. you're fine

Re: Compression h22a4

The reason I was wondering was also because every now and then I get the check engine lite will come on and it is because cylder 2missfires. This doesnt happen all the time but I can feel the car run poorly at idle when it does. Cylinder 2 is also the cylinder that was 175 on the compression test and when it was wet tested it shot up. THis leads me to wonder if my rings are worn and I may need to get new rings. What do you guys think?

Re: Compression h22a4

that's very possible that the rings are on their way out. i'd do a leakdown test to verify/confirm it. if you take off the oil cap and hear air hissing outta there when your testing #2..... well, y'know.
but still your results aren't too bad at all.

have you changed your plugs/wires recently? could (hopefully) be an easy fix like that.

Re: Compression h22a4

Yes after getting the compression test done I also did plugs and wires and it ran better but still will missfire every now and then. Usually when the car is first started when its cold out is when it will happen.

Leakdown test you mean wet test right same thing? Putting a little oil in the cylynder while doing a compression test? That was done and the compression shot up when that happened so That is what leads me to believe that the rings are a bit worn. Also there is a nitrous system in the car so its not that unbelievable that that could be the issue right?

Re: Compression h22a4

nahh a leakdown test is when you hook up an air compressor and shove air into each cylinder, and there's two gauges hooked up inline with the air hose. one gauge tells you how much psi your putting into the cylinder, and the other gauge tells you the percent leakage in the cylinder.

once you pressurize one cylinder and you hear air leaking/hissing out of the intake/throttle body, you know the intake valve seals are going bad.
if you hear air coming outta the exhaust, exhaust seals.
if you hear air coming outta the oil cap hole, piston rings.
and if you see air bubbles coming outta your coolant, your headgasket.
then repeat for all cylinders.

but typically if the results shoot up after doing a wet test (w/ oil) than thats usually a good indication that your rings are on their way out. and its not uncommon at all for the rings to be going especially w/ nitrous.
