weird question no answer :(

ok so i had my 5th gens engine pulled out and a 96 h22a1 put in.... was the h22a1 equiped with vtec or no?....cause after i rev the car past 5k i seem to smell something similar to burning oil.... not sure though... but my question i guess is if it wasnt vtec and my ecu thinks it is...could that cause a problem like burning oil? through some sort of pressure problem?
and if it was vtec equipped then maybe my rings are bad or something idk...any help?

there is no "thinking" you saw it. as soon as you open the hood, it's directly in your face. you either saw it or you didn't.

pretty sure it engages @ 5800

*edit* or 5200

H22'S are vtec, look at your engine stamp, it will say it in the front H2x if you even have an h motor...

if its a h22a1 it has vtec and like twokexlv6coupe said it will say it right in your face unless the valve cover was sanded down

my vtec pops at 5500, and like he's saying, VTEC will be on your valve cover, in nice big pretty letters.

Re: weird question no answer :(

yes its an h motor..and sorry Christ!... i haven't looked at the new engine yet until he said something. and why would they just burn oil at random?....doesn't sound healthy to me heh
now ok so if our ecu's "relearn" their stock settings then if i have the vtec point reassigned to say 4400 would it eventually go back? and is it even worth tuning our cars? or is it more of a hassle than a gain?

just cuz its an h motor doesn't mean anything. h23's aren't vtec.
they burn oil because vtec is engaged USING oil pressure, making it normal to burn oil.

what are you looking for out of your car? you want your stock motor to perform better and stronger on a daily basis? then yes a tune is good, tunes dont necessarily mean you'll get better gas mileage, but if your looking to keep it as a grocery getter then dont mess around with anything.

well that's the thing.. i keep hearing that the 5th gen ecu's relearn stock settings after a tune... i do want it tuned... its more than a grocery getter but it is going to be a daily driver ...but if its going to reset itself is it worth it... like how long will it keep the settings that i place? if at all?
im looking to turn this riced out project car into a respectable somewhat powerful daily driver
and weekend racer :)
the guy who had it before me really tore this thing up.... im just trying to breathe some life back into it... hah

they dont burn oil at random
1. vtec burns oil
2. because of the FRM sleeves, it makes it easier for oil to slip buy

and im pretty sure 5th gen ECU's arent tuneable. i was under the impression if you wanted a tune youd have to switch to OBD1 and get a P72 ecu. that is unless of course you just got a piggyback system

do more research for yourself. im pretty sure ALL of your questions could have been answered on google, this forum, or any other prelude forum

edit: the h22a1 came out of the canadian 4th gen VTEC. and some australian models

wrong nick come on
H22 burn oil because of the fmrs being harder then the piston ring lands causing the rings to flutter at high rpms.
