Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

I have a 2000 prelude. One of the speakers is blown in the front door so I decieded to get some new speakers. I know that the alpine 6 1/2 components will fit in without any modifications other than cutting the basket.

I am wondering if anyone here has put alpine type r 6 1/2 components in a 5 gen prelude? If so do they clear the window depth wise and what did you have to do to get them to fit? If its easy enough I want the type r's but if its too much work I will just get the type s. I used to install car stereos professionally so I know what is involved I just dont want to have to make any custom pods or do any fiberglassing.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

Did you install the 5 1/4 fronts? Or did you have them installed? If you did install them how much room do you have from the magnet to the window when the window is rolled down?

Did you have to do any modifications to get the fronts to fit, (ex. use a spacer)? thanks.

Also if anyone has experience with type r 6 1/2 in a 5th gen prelude that would be helpful also.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

I had a friend install the front ones. I dont have the tools to cut the door panel but, he did not use any kind of spacer and i dont have a problem with the window. But if u use a spacer it woud be better cause woud take the speaker away fron the window.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

Ya Will prolly need a spacer for sure just wondering if with the space and the size difference between 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 depth wise will make a difference. but if the 5 1/4 fit without a spacer for you and still no problems with the window maybie I can get the 6 1/2 to fit with little trouble. Just kinda hoping someon here has installed the 6 1/2 type r in a 5th gen to be sure. Thanks for you quick replies though.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

Does it not fit because of the window? I assume you tried a spacer if that is the case and it still doesnt fit?

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

hits the window, and if you space it out the cover doesnt go on. and the diameter is alittle too big too.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

So I wonder what would be a better choice then the 6 1/2 type s or 5 1/4 type r. The 5 1/4 type r must just be missing the window if the 6 1/2 hit it.

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

From what I've heard of them you'd be better off sacrificing the little extra low end you would get with 6.5s and go with the Type Rs 5.25s. They seem to have a little bit mellower tweeter. I find Type S a little too in your face on the highs. You could also check out Boston Acoustics SR65s. They are similarly priced and I belive you would only need to cut the basket out of the back to drop them in.

x2! also by this point in doin your stereo, if you dont have a sub already, you might wanna look into gettin one. even if your not a big like bass head. just like a small 10" to bring back and really make the lows sound good and clear. just my .02 cents

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

that was a type 2 type r 12's. Ive had a lot of systems in the past 4 jlw6 12's with 2 ppi 2150 amps and diamond audio fronts. I also have a pair of 15in l7's with a 2000watt rms rockford power amp. Im just looking for something a little smaller so I think 2 12in type r would be good for me.

Ill prolly end up running them off the vpower line alpine amp,

Re: Door Speaker depth alpine type r and type s

The L7's are my neighbor's however he came over drunk one night and gave me a 2000 dollar budget to buy him speakers so I ordered him that set up. He never put em in his truck because he had no deck and no alarm. I had an alarm and deck and was already wired for subs in my explorer so I built him a box and we put em in my explorer to test em out. There they sat for a year and now there in my house just sitting there. I could put em in my prelude but I just dont want to take up all the space and I already have a nos bottle in the trunk that will need to be moved.
