well the autos on the lude aren't known for being great

might be starting to fail

there's a thread for it somewhere I'll go look for the link

here it is 5th Gen Auto Transmission Failure Guide

and if you haven't changed the timing belt yet, do that as well

Re: HELP....'97lude

I would change your trans fluid every 15-20k

I know that is way more often than advised but it will help.

The automatic transmissions do have a good amount of failing history.

Re: HELP....'97lude

Thats why you get a 5 speed. =)

But since you've got an automatic do a 5 speed swap. Not only will it be more reliable but you will free up A LOT of horsepower.

Re: HELP....'97lude

Deff do the Timing Belt and Balancer shaft belt!!!! and water pump while your in there!! You can do spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, PCV valve, fuel filter, Clean the throttle body real good with some carb clean, throw some octane booster fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank, coolant flush, your tranny sounds like it is on the way out........they ALL do that then just get worse. (changinng the fluid coulld help a little) Thats why I am doing the 5 speed swap to mine, I cant wait! Make sure your suspention is good and everything is nice and tight. check your brakes- you may want to just machine the rotors and make them true again to get rid of any high spped brake pulsation, balance the tires and the car should drive almost like new again. lol

Same here!!!

I bought my AUTO for $3500!!! then I started to feel more and morew of the tranny slowly slipping as the months go by.

So then I bought a 5spd tranny with clutches and pedals and of course i cant forget my JDM motor!!! FTW

I cant wait to get the swap done!!!
