Icon9 Engine Replacement

I will try to make this saga short, bought 98 with JDM H22A and some nice upgrades. Body needed work, so would just put a body kit on it. However engine wound up being fried. Bought a JDM H22A replacement engine. Should be an easy swap, just time needed. Wiring different, old engine has seperate coil and dizzy, new has them combined (2 plugs vs 1 plug). After reading FAQs should be able to put coil and dizzy on new engine and install crank sensors from old to new engine. Dizzy and coil moved over fine and pluged into harness. Removed crank sensor from old and went to install on new and low and behold, no mounting holes and brackets on new! Don't know what to do now. Please HELP!!!

Re: Engine Replacement

ok so... old engine has external coil, and new engine has internal coil (in the dizzy).
so the old engine was OBD1 and the new engine is OBD2, correct?
so your trying to convert the new engine to OBD1?
if ur gonna use the old OBD1 external coil for that, which doesn't have the crank sensors built into it, your gonna need to swap the OBD1 oil pump onto the motor in order to mount the sensors up.

orrr you could keep it OBD2, install the internal coil dizzy which does have the crank sensors, and be done with it. unless there's something else that you didn't mention.

or there's a 3rd option, which is escaping my mind right now.

Re: Engine Replacement

Thanks! Wow, made a bad assumption that because it was a 98 it was OBD2, so ordered an OBD2 engine. Want to do the easiest way, how do I convert to OBD2?

Re: Engine Replacement

I'm at a stand still. The preludes wiring harness has two plugs for the dizzy, one for the coil and one for the crank sensors. The dizzy from the new engine has one large plug. I guess in this big plug there are wires for the internal coil and some type of sensor that would be equall to the crank sensor. Do I somehow match up the wires from the wiring harness to the large plug on the dizzy? Are the colors the same on both? For instance, the two wires that go to the crank sensor from the OBD1 engine, where would they go to on the OBD2 engine, somewhere in the big dizzy plug? Once I get this figured out I can put the engine back in the car. Thanks!
