Re: prelude oil catch can

uhhhh, there's about a thousand diff catch cans on ebay. gotta be a lil more specific

hell, even the DIY home depot/lowes/compressor filter catch cans work. as long as it has a baffle in it.

will it fix the black smoke? most likely not, since that's not the purpose of catch cans!

Re: prelude oil catch can

Oil catch can may fix blue smoke (burning oil) since a decent one will prevent oil vapours from the PCV valve from getting in the intake and then being burnt.

Black smoke is usually from an engine running rich.

Venting PCV valve gasses to the atmosphere would be illegal. If you are going to do that, you should also get rid of the EGR. Nothing but pure air coming in the intake then (unless I missed something?).

With an unmodified cheap catch can lots of oil will just go straight back out. Idea is to let the gasses through, but catch the oil; which if your smoke is caused by burning oil will help.

Re: prelude oil catch can

Well there is a breather tube before the throttle body. Asked someone who had catch cans between the PCV and breather about contents and the breather had basically nothing.

@wing081, if you don't know about the PCV, then where exactly were you going to put the catch can?

More than likely you have valve guide seals that need replacing, or you have blow by your rings. Depends on how exessive the smoke actually is because I think I understand that it is the nature of the best for our Vtec generation.
