Alarm?

My car was broken into at the end of september, and I have been looking into alarms, I obviously have not found one that pleases me yet......I have been thinking and, am I over reacting? I want an alarm that turns my car into a stun gun.......Place electrodes around my car in strategic areas, and set it up so that a high power tazer is leading to each electrode so that when touched, 900,000 volts hit the thief. Now is this legal? In Texas stun guns are legal to protect your property.... Texas is big on property protection so in theory this could work, but to make it arm the electrode, I would need a proxemity or Just use electricity openly and kill the tazer. Anyone know how i might find such device, I tried google

Re: Alarm?

this is NOT legal in any State in the US.

You can't inflict bodily injury upon another person, especially if you are NOT there to be threatened. A self defense plea would be weak at best, even if you were. As long as the criminal does NOT attack you physically. Don't gert me wrong, one does have the right to protect their property, so di it the right way.

You CAN use accessories like Proximity/Radar sensors,
Internal, high pressure, pain generators. (sound only)
Paging Alarm Fob with proximity indicators.
Starter kill
Lights... LOTS n LOTS of lights
Lots of Sound outside the car, aka double and triple up on the alarm siren.

Theives don't like attention.

Re: Alarm?

On my car I am always worried about someone breaking into it or messing with it so I have an intensive alarm install. For alarms, it isn't about just getting the best alarm but rather the quality of the installation. You want to make sure it is done well and that it is a hidden install. Most thieves can get an alarm to go silent in probably under 10 seconds because the siren or brain is easy to find. On my car (which is probably overkill), I made sure the brain was extremely difficult to access. If you knew it's location, were very fast at dismantling, and knew how Preludes were structured and assembled, it would take at least 30 minutes to get to the brain. I also have 2 air horns (one of which is a semi-truck horn), 4 pain generators (1 under the hood, 2 inside the cabin, and 1 in the trunk), 2 alarm sirens, and 2 standard horns. Everything is extremely well hidden and hard to disable. The battery is also relocated and secure so it can't be tampered with. Even if someone manages to get to the battery, there is back up power for the alarm.

So my system is pretty intensive as far as alarms go. It also has all the standard triggers and sensors you would expect. It only has gone off twice. Once when a tree fell on my Prelude and once when I relocated the shock sensor and it was slightly too sensitive and someone's exhaust set it off at a Prelude meet. To say the least, the car got everyone's attention. Hopefully that gives you something to think about when designing your alarm.

Exacary-- and it goes up from there.. MOST effective with three or more inside the cabin.

Re: Alarm?

Kyle is 100% right. Also what I had in my accord was a hidden switch that I wired to a fuel pump cut off. So matter what they did to steal the car it would not run because the engine would not get gas untill you pressed the hidden switch. I could turn it on and off whenever i wanted so i didnt have to hit the switch EVERY time i started the car--just when it was being parked somewhere sketchy or overnight somewhere.

Re: Alarm?

yeah a kill switch is one of the most important things you can do to any car. a good kill switch and good installation are important. they are separate from your alarm system and cant be bypassed by simply disabling your alarm. you can also hook them to your remote start to bypass when starting. however, a simple fuel pump kill is easy to bypass by running a wire directly to the FP. try killing the main relay, ignition, starter(if its automatic) ecu, head lights. also, wiring dummy switches to the horn or a siren is great way to mess with the thief. :)

Re: Alarm?

you guys are missing the main point tho....

you could have more alarm/theft-deterrent gadgets on your car than the batmobile, space shuttle, and all the supercars combined, but if a thief realllyyyy wants your car, they'll take it in about 30 seconds.

Re: Alarm?

^^^ LOL strap your arms to the tires of your car^^^

The EASY solution is a wireless camera system recording on 2tb drives to a laptop / pc. Hey, no sounds, the person will always be caught and you do something subtle like in the A/C vents for when they break in, and one in your head rests to see them coming.

Re: Alarm?

one idea i've been thinking is tapping one of the remote ground outputs on the alarm to an ignition kill relay so if you have the remote with the 1 mile range you can remotely kill the car as its speeding away :) that is... if they dont deactivate the alarm. you can also wire up the ignition to a normally open relay so when they do pull out the alarm the ignition will be cut the second the alarm is disconnected.

We've had paranoid people ask for that and the problem is you have an energized relay 24/7. Even a Bosch relay would fail after so long. Then you have a fun problem to deal with when you go to work one day. "*employer*, I'm gonna be late for work" "ok, why" "............cause I'm paranoid" lol! Just playin man. Good thought tho. You could set it up with a latching relay system though. Have the alarm trigger a ignition kill relay that would have its power from a different source so even if they disable the alarm the ignition is still open.
