eBay Fog light help

I am thinking about getting some clear JDM replica fog lights off ebay, right now i have the USDM fogs on my car, can i just remove these along with the black plastic and install? What will be needed? Any input on these fogs?

Thanks

Re: eBay Fog light help

They come with bulbs. Problem is that the connectors will probably be different. Lights just need 12V, doesn't matter what harness supplies it. Could make adapters and use the existing harness or swap out the one that comes with the new lights. Possible that the new ones will have the same plugs I guess.

Re: eBay Fog light help

Regardless of what bulb, the connection plug to the harness will be different.

The easiest way will be to swap out your existing harness with the one you'll be getting from your ebay purchase. Rest of the system will be the same.

Re: eBay Fog light help

If you are buying ebay ones make sure you get the second version of them ( can be bought from seller: Cosmodynamic.) The kits comes with much much much better qaulity housings, a knock off switch, switchplate and all harnesses and relay needed. The bulbs in those are h3c and the housings are rated for 55w( meaning you won't melt them as easily if you put HIDs in them). You can use the pre-run that our cars have but you will have to modify a little bit of their harnesses to get them working. no big deal really. They send you a harness and mean for you to run it through the fender, what I did was just cut that harness in two and put a female bullet connector on one and a male bullet on the other. Then just wire it up like you would otherwise... I can explain more if you need, I just did these over the winter break...

Edit: reference kit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1997-...Q5fAccessories obviously you can get them non smoked those are just the first set that came up. Thats the set you want...their harness is a little ****ed but its soooo worth it, the housing are OEM quality for sure.

Re: eBay Fog light help

ya i would think you could convert the harness, if they use different bulbs, and then just switch out the actual fog light housing? seems simple enough

question, how can you tell the difference between the first version? and the 2nd(newer/better) version?

you should be able to but I don't know, I didn't have fogs on before so I had to wire EVERYTHING up...I guess you'll know when you get into it huh?

And the difference between the first and 2nd versions are hard to tell apart online but are supposed to be pretty significant in person. The 2nd version is of MUCH better quality( housing wise). Also the wiring harnesses are different, and the 2nd version is sold with the switch plate and switch...Also the 1st version( correct me if I'm wrong because I didn't own them.) were only rated for 35watt bulbs. and the housings were known to melt fairly easily. The second version's housing and lens are top notch, and claim to "meet or exceed" oem standards...which I can say I believe 100%. Bottom line I love them...even after one of the bulbs blew after only 3 weeks -.-

The easiest way to do this is to just remove the USDM fogs and the exterior harness...and then replace it with the ebay fogs and harness. You can leave the interior stuff the way it is.

Re: eBay Fog light help

Except as said the newer ebay version doesn't make use of the orange wire. Also has two grounds for some reason. Could do like Lazer and cut it to use the orange connector. Should then work fine with the existing USDM interior harness/button.

Could also adapt the bulb connector wires so as a piggyback between the existing exterior harness.

Bulbs really don't matter. Could have exactly the same bulbs, but if the bulb holder/connectors are different then you can't use the same harness. Something like headlights or indicators they have to use the same connectors since they need to hook up to an existing harness. With fogs, there is no existing harness, so they can use whatever connector they like as long as it matches the provided harness.

It doesn't use the orange wire? That sounds like a pain in the ass to install if you don't have any pre-existing wiring. Your best bet is to snip off whatever connector they have on there and then putting a bullet connector on.

If you don't have the pre-run then yea it would be a pain but they send you the harness assuming that you don't have the pre run...since you do, just modify their harness to work with the pre-run...pretty simple actually. and like was stated above it would be easier to just replace the exterior harness completely. but its really up to you. My suggestion is to just figure it out when you go to do it, it'll all make much more sense then...
