Quick question on ECU's (hacking auto to manual)

With my auto>manual swap now in the final stages (just got the pedal installation and electronics to go), I just want to clear some things up regarding the ECU.

Obviously I have the auto ecu from the car but I also I the manual ecu from the donor car.

I don't have my red key, only the black ones so if I switch to the manual ecu, will I need to get my keys reprogrammed for the car to start ? If so, I think this will be pricey to get done here.

If I hack the auto ecu by resoldering the resistor as detailed in the manual swap guide, is it recommended to take it to someone specialised to do this ?
These resistors are so small it seems you need special tools to remove the resistor.
I was speaking to a friend of mine who fixes things like laptops, tv's, video cameras etc for a living. He tells me that its normal that the resistor will be ruined upon removal because its so small and you need a specialised removal tool. He also said that as far as fitting it on the other side, forget it. He said that I would have to find out its resistence and buy a full size resistor to put in its place.

I was wondering how people who have done this ecu hack have managed it.

Thanks

Re: Quick question on ECU's (hacking auto to manual)

...why not try and plug in the manual ecu you have and see if it works with your key? i mean if it were me, i'd give it a try. plus its only the one plug...

I'm unable to do that at the moment because a lot of the electric cables in the engine bay are still disconnected and there is no battery, radiator or fluids in the car either.
I figured if I knew beforehand it would save me time and effort in getting the auto ecu hacked.

Yeah got that already, thanks ;)

But I was really wondering if people who had done this had used any special tools or had problems with the resistor breaking etc.
Also if they did it themselves or took it to a specialist.
