Re: Upgrades On 1997 Honda Prelude

Uhhh first of all it's vtec not VTECH! And to get started do all your bolt ons. Like an air intake, header and exhaust. And before more mods you should do a 5spd swap cuz automatic transmission suck! And use the SEARCH bar. You can find all you answers there.

Wow. I lol'ed. Thats getting sigged and +1 for you sir!

To OP. Poke around our members ride section to see what mods are typical and to help you decide what you would like. After that you can do your research and see what brands you would specifically like. Also the 5th gen official picture post is a great place to get good inspiration from. In the end its your car do what appeals to you most....Unless that includes rice....

Re: Upgrades On 1997 Honda Prelude

lazer and twisty55 got the right ideas. take a look at the 5th gen intake q&a thread, lotta good info. check out how to build an n/a h22 for good header and exhaust choices. 5 spd is definately a must, and I'd prob do that first

Re: Upgrades On 1997 Honda Prelude

if you do all the work yourself, it'll cost just the price of the parts needed.
if your paying someone, i think around 2-2.5K

but it's well worth it. one member did a pre and post dyno comparison of auto vs manual, and he gained i think 40hp and 30tq, or something along those lines. it was astonishing.

Re: Upgrades On 1997 Honda Prelude

I'm sure that where ever you saw that was true. I have a manual trans and no real engine work done. Just regular maintenance and another 5th gen that is auto and I gave 'er the berries and it was like lude on lude crime. 5 speed that bad boy if you can pony up the dough.

ya i remember that too. he had something like 130hp before the swap. and after it was between like 180-190. i cant really remember. just remember it was an astonishing amount. besides the more power youll be able to put down, you wont have to worry about that time bomb of a tranny exploding

depends on where you get parts from... if your lucky and you do the swap your self... maybe 1k-1.5k. but if you can't drive a 5 spd... look in to tranny coolers and a rebuild...

really if you want it to be fast it depends on how much money you want to put in to it... and how much time... do it right and do it once... best thing if you want dependable and little cheaper id stick N/A... get a good intake either jdm type S or a aem v2, decent header, either a good exhaust or custom, light weight flywheel & stage 2 or 3 clutch(if you go 5spd route) and throw on a tune and you should be good...

That really depends bc I recently picked up the side parts and 5spd tranny for $300 (thnx to RC114) for lookin out and a JDM motor for $500. I'm gonna get it Bustr Built soon for labor for bout 1G. So in total for me will run about $1,800!!!
