help with dead prelude

i bought a 99 prelude base model bout 3 weeks ago. when i start the car it starts up fine but as i drive a little ways, it will slowly drain the battery and die. on the left side of the alternator, the cable that is connected to it does have a tear in it because it hit one of the fans. please help me to fix this problem and to know exactly what that cable is. thanks

Re: help with dead prelude

Is the battery light on? It is probably not your battery, it doesn't keep the car running -- the alternator does. Are you sure it is electrical?

Re: help with dead prelude

check the voltage of the car at the battery when running. look for ~14v report the results

Re: help with dead prelude

if it is the battery, check the cables leading and leaving, the alt, and the batt

Re: help with dead prelude

check the cable for any cut wires. if there are no cut wires the alternator isint putting out the correct voltage and needs to be replaced.

Re: help with dead prelude

first off sorry but i have no idea how to start a new post with that said i hope someone can help me out. i have 1998 honda prelude( what else !!!!) the guy before me swapped the auto to manual tran. so i this morning went to start the car and it didnt start, the car been sitting for 3 days covered in snow but i know its not the battery since everything electrical works. here is the werid thing the cluster gauge is of the automatic so when i press the clutch the parking light should come on but it doesnt. any ideas ? i look under and checked all the fuses also i checked the clutch sensor and there are two of them right? one that has a switch that lets the car know if the clutch been pressed or not and another one ( i have no idea what it does) now keep in mind there are two wires coming from the firewall to the a harness that connects to the second sensor ( the harnness is yellow) the other sensor with the switch doesnt have a harnness ( is it supposed to be like this) i took that sensor with the switch that touchs the clutch arm, i looked where there might a harnees go and there are three connection points as if there should be something connecting there. once again sorry but any help would be awesome ? ALSO THE handbrake light is on i assume that might be due to low oil break levels which i already checked and are fine!!! thanks you can email me at zaid1618@yahoo.com thank you
