Broke The lude Today.

Not a good start to the new year!

Story: Today I hit vtec in 3rd gear getting up to speed on the highway. When I went to shift into forth gear I felt something break. I then lost about half of the cars power and smoke started pouring out the exhaust. I pulled the car off the road and shut it off. I went to the back of the car and the bumper was covered in oil. After swearing and jumping up and down I opened the hood and found the engine bay covered in oil also. At this point I thought my car was finished for good. I had the car towed to a mechanic and he told me that I blew the head gasket and my engine was probably okay. So this is not all bad news I guess. Since he while already be ripping apart my engine Im gonna get as many new parts in there as possible.

So far I have asked him to replace the following parts:

Timming belt
A/C alt belt
Power steering belt
water pump
Complete seal kit Head valve ect
Piston rings
Fuel filter
Rad flush

Is there another parts you guys would recommened after a blown head gasket or that I should get replaced while its all open?

I almost forgot my number four cylinder had 0 compression. The gasket blew out around this cylinder. So is it most likley that its has 0 compression because of the blown gasket or other damage ie valves?

Re: Broke The lude Today.

when i read it, i assumed it was a bent valve... but a blown head gasket makes better sence.

Re: Broke The lude Today.

First time I heard of a Honda blowing a head gasket. I thought it sounded more like a connection rod breaking at the crank and sending the rod threw the front of the motor, Now I have seen that happen.

Re: Broke The lude Today.

Hmm...I'm with Rob on this one. A blown head gasket tends to bleed coolant into the exhaust. It's possible your gasket needs replacing, but it sounds like more went wrong...your mechanic needs to look deeper than the head.

Re: Broke The lude Today.

Sorry just your description sounded so much like what happen to this guy and his 3rd Gen, He tried to nurse it back to Roanoke, VA from Lynchburg. His oil light kept coming on and he was smelling something burning and smoke coming from under the hood, he stopped about every 15 or so miles to add oil but it was too late he threw the #2 Rod, it broke at the crank and when the crank came back around it launched thru the front of the motor behind the exhaust manifold.

Usually a blown headgasket you get kind of a bang sound then nothing but white smoke out the exhaust. Then the temp gauge goes thru the roof. (If you have this happen shut down the motor ASAP) Then when you check your oil on the dip stick you have all sorts of water beeds on it. The car will run fine for a while but the water mixed with the oil the water burns off and turns to steam which generates even more heat, then the water dilutes the oil breaking it down and then no lubrication and all that fiction makes everything heat up and expand, then it will soon seize up tight.

Yours sounds more like a thrown rod or something.

Re: Broke The lude Today.

Well very bad news! The motor is done. The piston blew up and destroyed the cylinder.
:( Now Im in need of a new motor. Does anyone know a good place to buy a motor? I found a accord jdm h23 vtec motor (engine only) but Im not sure if it will work. I need to do some research.

Re: Broke The lude Today.

I found an engine!!!!! Its a jdm h22a obd2 with 28000 miles. I paid $1336 for it shipped. So far I have learned I need to put my usdm oil pump in the jdm. I may need to use my USDM IM for the JDM for some sensor, but Im not 100% sure on that. Im still researching the swap. If Anyone has something to add please let me now.
