question abt cams

hey i was looking into skunk 2 cams stage 1. i know u have to buy the retainers as well as valve springs. but what else would i have to change? will i need to change fuel pressure regulator? wut abt the injectors? and if i do that will i need to change the intake and exhaust valves?

or can i leave it all stock. I dont plan on a turbo setup or racing i just wanted a boost in performance.

Re: question abt cams

actually with the stage 1 cams you dont have to change your valvetrain, but it is recommended. valvetrain includes valves, valve springs, retainers, and seals. the stock fuel system will still support a stage 1 setup with no problems.

Re: question abt cams

if you're replacing pistons, you have to watch out cuz of the FRM liners. you can't run regular forged pistons, you'll have to sleeve the block to use those. or go mahle, supposedly they've got FRM friendly pistons.

Re: question abt cams

if your upgrading cams and you have the extra cash you might as well do the retainers, springs, valves, seals.... its a worthy investment then probably a tune :)

yeah unless u are looking to fork out quite a bit more money and a lot more down time, i would just recommend replacing the stuff in the head. cams, valvetrain, head gasket, get an aftermarket cam seal, then if you plan on getting a tune, i would just go ahead and throw some adj cam gears on there too so they can fine tune it. and it adds a lot of bling to ur motor if you have the side of ur valve cover cut to show them bad boys off. it also makes it tons easier for your tuner to get in there without having to take the valve cover off everytime he/she wants to adjust them. a good header, meaning smsp, hytech, or bisi and a euro r manifold with an s2k or aftermarket throttle body would round things out nicely too. all of that with a tune would give u a pretty significant boost in power, but i dont know if you wanna spend the extra $1200-1500 for the IM and header.

as for your question about the valves, STD compression will be fine for a stock bottom end.

cam seal, valve stem seals, valve cover gasket, head gasket, intake and exhaust gaskets.
get a hondata heatshiled intake gasket or similar, it will cool ur intake temps.

Re: question abt cams

Oh, another thing, it would prolly be a good idea to go ahead and change your tbelt and balance shaft belt, water pump, and tensioner while you're in there. the auto to manual tensioner conversion is also something to think about, those auto tensioners are known for their failure rates.

rep is appreciated

Re: question abt cams

Yeahh since u have the automatic the first thing I would do is the 5spd swap. Even if ya dont know how 2 drive stick. I dont know how 2 drive stick and im buying all the parts for the swap rite now. Ya gotta learn sometime ya know? If u want a boost in power and alotttt more reliability, def do the 5spd swap.

Re: question abt cams

yeah, you really dont have many tuning solutions for an automatic since you cant throw a p28 or p72 in there. however i think you might be able to use hondata maybe? you will just hafta do a little diggin to find out. but like Taylor said^ i would def recommend the 5spd swap, a lot more reliable especially when you start addin power to the motor.

Re: question abt cams

its the jdm version im thinking most of you have the h22a4 to be specific witch is the American version the h22a is j-spec "Japanese specifications" you can tell if you look on the side of your block or by witch side the fuel lines come in i think

As far as I know all H22s have the automatic tensioner, and all H23s have the manual tensioner. I doesn't matter if they are JDM or USDM.

Please correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not 100% sure. Take it with a grain of salt.
