mysterious CEL

hey guys i posted this problem b4 but i never got any replies. but heres my problem. ever since i put on my DC headers, my CEL came on. i drive around. and it randomly turns off. a drive around some more. and what do u know. its back again. i had to pass smog this month and you cant pass it with that light on. lucky for me, it jst so happened to turn off. that same day i rushed to a smog chek station, and to my luck, i PASSED! the next day, my light came on. this has been going on for over six months. there was a couple of times were it stayed off for about 2 weeks. but it comes right back on. the only thing i can think of to do is tune my ECU or get an aftermarket O2 sensor. cuz i did diagnostics and its pointing to the sensor. but im afraid that if jst buy a new stock one, ill waste my money and end up with the same problem. and an after market O2 sensor which someone told me about, which i kinda doubt exists, i have no idea were to find. so if anyone else has had the same problem in the past, pls let me know wat u did. thanks.

Re: mysterious CEL

Aftermarket O2 sensors do exist! any local chain parts stores should be able to get them. It sounds like you need one. Try it out..

Re: mysterious CEL

how much you think its gonna cost? and would i have to modify it or the piping in anyway to make it fit? cuz i was thinking bout the aftermarket o2 sensor but wat if the light jst comes right back on because my ECU will still think too much air is coming thru. cuz i also have an aftermarket short ram intake about to be cold air as soon as i install it and a full exhaust kit...

Re: mysterious CEL

if you deleted an o2 sensor hole (too lazy to check about the DC header and whatever if they have em) it would probably cause something like that. youd have to have a shop weld in a new bung so you could put it in

Re: mysterious CEL

whats up . listen bro your problem started when you change the header ,that tells me the o2sensor was probably going bad when you change it,or the wire is broken or the plug is not connected properly .The cell light blinking is code reminder that is telling sign of some thing not working to its potential ,and goes on when the ecu sees a problem and then turn it of when the problem goes away most likely the code is stored in the ecu, and can be read ,this is your starting point .The prelude you have has two sensors ,#1 front sensor is your fuel meter sensor and the #2 is underneath the car is the o2 sensor .When you buy aftermarket sensors try to get the denso they are very close to oem and the price is reasonable .The site is sparkplug.com .Let me know if you need help ,these sensor go bad after 90,000miles ,or even 100,000.Also bad maintenance is what causes these problems .

Re: mysterious CEL

i mean CEL's code telling you what the problem is, so why don't you just fix it? that seems like the smartest answer i could give. obviously o2 sensor needs replacing.. go get one that fits and replace it.

so i checked out the site and i have two options. a front and a rear. im guessing the rear one is the one that goes right b4 the CAT. thats the one i need. correct me if im wrong. and im surprised its only 39.53. are they supposed to be that cheap? they have a universal one too thats actually more expensive.
