Re: 5th gear scratching

have you checked for any cats, wolverines, or other feline type animals, in your car?

seriously, could you be any more vague?? could you possibly narrow it down? engine? tranny? interior? suspension? steering?
or under any driving scenarios? idling? cruising? accelerating? braking? turning?

Re: 5th gear scratching

oh wow my bad. i totally didn't realize the title of this thread was "5th gear" lmfao. whooopssss
sorry for the sarcasm/hostility before.

but i've never heard of the term "scratching" before, that's a new one. that is more commonly referred to as grinding, and is caused by your 5th gear syncro taking a dumpp on you. there really is no easy fix for it, other than granny-shifting and constantly checking/changing your tranny fluid, unless you wanna rebuild your tranny.

Re: 5th gear scratching

That 2 second noise you hear when your car is first started is the ABS self check

Re: 5th gear scratching

There is a big difference between the abs self check you hear when you first start your car and begin to roll, and the sound of a 5th gear grind. If you are having any type of grinding while shifiting issues then its tranny related and I suggest you swap in some AMSOIL synchromesh tranny fluid.

My one does that as well, Im sure its the power steering pump.

+1 on the change transmission fluid, its relatively cheap, and wont do any harm.
