5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

I debated asking this question since I'll probably get flammed ...

So I got a 5th gen year 2000, it's auto I wanted to try out the tiptronic but I don't know if the previous owner ever used it. Plus I know that HONDA had some bad auto tranny's on the 5th gens.

Someone was telling me never to use it because his friend's tranny broke down really quickly after he used it.

what are your thoughts?

I was just looking for some validation around the topic of whether using the tiptronic will wreck my tranny, thanks! =)

ya, theyre notorious for the trannys crapping out. some peoples break early, some never do. guess its just luck. just save up for a 5spd swap

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

I say give it a try. I owned a automatic for like a year and I always drove it in tiptronic and it never crapped out on me. Guess i was one of the lucky ones! lol

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

I don't think it would make a difference wether you use it or not. It is really how hard you drive your car. When I first got my accord, I drove the crap out of it. Now the tranny slips into neutral when it upshifts into every gear. It stops once the car is fully warmed up. I now try to take it pretty easy on my car, and pray that the tranny doesn't crap out on me.

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

my dad had bought the automatic lude we have in 1998 and we still have it today, currently has 104,456miles always been drivin on triptronic and has never given us problems. it all depends on how you drive it and you must always keep up with the maintenance, flushing the fluid and putting new in, dont do it cheap go to the actual dealership and get it done or a trusted honda mechanic.

however the 5speed parts car we have is alot faster haha. and you can have alot more fun with a 5speed. if you have the time and money save up for a 5speed swap.

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

I owned a 1998 auto 5th gen my senior year in HS and I kept clean fluid in the tranny and I switched off from ss mode to d4 quite frequently and I NEVER had a single hiccup. It had roughly 60k miles. Then I began to hate the auto when I wanted more performance and sure enough I was nailed in the back by a drunk in a durango who totaled my car and then fled the scene haha, needless to say I caught him.

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

I've had my lude for a lil over a year and i drove it in triptronic all the time. I recently quit and just put it in d4 now. But my tranny hasnt messed up on me yet. If i was u I would still do the 5spd swap tho

It is the luck of the draw. Some people say yes, some say no.

I used it for over 30k miles, then my trans needed to be rebuilt....lol. I rebuilt it, and havent been using tiptronic ever since.

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

Used mine in Sports-Shift mode for 4 years, gearbox failed and now Im in the long and expensive process of a manual swap.

So no, if you can avoid it, avoid it. Meanwhile save up and go manual.

Re: 5th gen lude, should I use the tip tronic?

my 98 lude has 164,665 miles on it and all i ever use is the tip tronic. and ppl say that 5spd is way faster, i wouldnt fully agree. i have a full i/h/e setup on my car and EVERY time i raced a friends manual, i won. or at least kept up the whole time without falling back and inch. yea 5spd is more fun, but performance wise, i think its highly debate-able. for one, you will never miss a gear and stick it into 2nd and not 3rd and blow yr motor. lol. which actually happened to a friend of mine. my opinion give it a try. jst be smart with it. because any car, manual, auto, or tip tronic, if you abuse yr car, it will break down. tranny and everything else. im sure everyone can agree with that
