lots of water comming from under the car

I just bought my prelude 3 weeks ago, and was doing an oil change a coupld days ago and when i jacked up the car at least 2 cups of water started coming from a couple spots on the chassis, and i am worried about it rusting. What made the water stay under there? How can i stop water from getting up there?

I'm going to take some pictures and specify where i saw it coming from. I noticed it behind the front wheel wells kind of near the lift points.

pics are up. look this way |

Yeah do and try to explain where exactly the water came from, becasue if it was just sitting on the splash guard its not going to rust that is plastic.

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

could you be a lil more specific than "a couple spots on the chassis"? that's like... the entire car.

i'm thinking possibly the sunroof drain

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

is there a diagram of the sunroof drain in the helms manual? how does water get into the sunroof space, seems like a good seal, and i haven't even had it open the last 2 weeks.

The water looked like it was coming from a seam in the chassis about 6inches back from the front left wheel well and 6inch in from the side skirt. When i get a chance tomorrow i will take some pics and post them up. It just looked like an odd place for water to be coming from, and my last car had some chassis rust that was killing it before the motor blew. So i was somewhat concerned.

Oh and thanks for the input thus far. :)

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

possibly the water that drains from the hood cowl???

I suggest taking a hose and a friend and trying to nail down where it is coming from...

Edit: in the helms manual the moonroof drain channel can be found in chapter 20 page 103(20-35) and following pages.

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

I wouldn't worry about it unless your temperature gauge stays red hot, like you have a busted hose clamp or something maybe even a hole in one of the radiator hoses or something like that. As far as spots of oil, wetness under the engine ha, who doesn't have that? Unless you just built the motor.

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

Here are the pics, the first one is of the left side of the car

the next one gives you a better perspective

I saw it coming out of this hole on the right side

what are these holes that run along each side?

on another note, does anyone know if these 17'' wheels will fit on our preys?

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

check the bolt pattern, if those r 5 x 114.3 they should fit, or is it 5 x 100? idr, and it looks like theyre just drainage holes, nothing to worry about though

Re: lots of water comming from under the car

ya man, theyre just drain holes. im pretty sure it says in the manual that the inside/outside of every panel is covered in a rust proof coating. so unless you scratch the actual metal, you will be fine
