Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

When my cat converter was failing and getting clogged I had loud, weak VTEC action. Any CELs?

Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

I remember that mine had the same problem. So checked it and I noticed that my CAI filter was dirty and clogged with a bunch of sh!t. So I bought a new one and I noticed a big difference. Vtec kicked in good with full power. But I read around and many people said that checking your oil would help too.

^^ always check your oil first what something feels fishy. You don't wanna deprive your engine and blow it.

Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

could be oil, could be filter, could be clogged cat, could be timing retardation, to name a few

Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

The famous oil problem .... the suggestion mention are most common with vtec low oil thickness viscosity and the strainer on the vtec solonoid could be an issue start with most common P.S important make sure your engine temp is up the vtec won't work if the engine temp is cold it has to reach the level need for pressure .What do you mean by vtec being loud ,need more info .H Doctor Later.

Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

unfortunately everyone who has suggested he might be low on oil.... if he was, vtec wouldn't engage AT ALL!!!! period!

but, he claims vtec IS kicking in, and is very loud, so his oil is most likely ok. and if the car lost alotta power.....

your exhaust cam skipped a tooth (or two). 100% positive. which is why its extremely loud cuz the valves aren't closed 100% letting some combustion out into the exhaust, which would also lead to extremely poor performance.

Re: Vtec to loud and weak power

your timing belt keeps your camshafts in time with your crankshaft to operate properly, and since your motor is DOHC you have an intake camshaft and an exhaust camshaft. your exhaust cam jumped forward one tooth on the timing belt, and now you are experiencing the effects of it.

to confirm that this is the problem, your going to hafta take off the valve cover, and the upper timing cover. then your two cam gears will have an "up" arrow in each of them, and two lines. your need to spin the motor until the two lines point to each other, and the up arrows should point straight up. if you're not able to line these up, it's cuz your motor is outta time.

fortunately if it's only one tooth, you can simply take off the timing belt, align everything again, put it back on, and your motor should be perfect.
