Puffs alot of smoke

This is strange to me becuase the car only does it after idling for around 5 min. This also happens when I slowly shift into first gear and slowly let my foot off the clutch. it shoots out a poof of white/ blue smoke. I have the code: P0325 and P0141. I heard this is caused becuase I am burning rich also, I am clueless when it comes to H22 motors.

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

thats a really tough one to diagnose without actually being there with your car..
cuz someone correct me if i'm wrong, but:
1 ~ White smoke can indicate that you are burning antifreeze. ~ headgasket most likely
2 ~ Black smoke is usually unburned fuel and can generally be associated with running rich. ~ could be many things, or could just need a tune.
3 ~ Exhaust smoke that is "bluish" in color usually signifies that oil is getting into the combustion chamber and burning off. ~ Rings or valve guides are most likely toast

not sure which codes those are though. i'm sure someone will come in and say.

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

But its weird becuase it only does this in first gear. I can be pounding threw all gears and not a puff of smoke comes out but when I let it idle for awhile and than drive it, it puffs smoke. I get this nasty smell inside the cabin also.

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

ok... whats it smell like?

and somehow i doubt it only does it in first gear(and when stopped assuming too?). its probably more like at that point your going fast enough, that by the time you would be able to see the exhaustm its already dissipated.

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

haha thanks.

but have to ask what would that even do? because really if it were gear/tranny related, it wouldnt be coming out the exhaust..

personally i'd say he needs to check the antifreeze for oil, and the oil for antifreeze/water.. and then also check the plugs..

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

Whats up my friend? seems you have a little problem okay first thing the codes are po325 and this is a knock sensor and the po141 is heated o2 sensor those two codes are power codes so that would affect the engine performance and the other thing is smoke in the exhaust you have be more precise on that because it could be your valve seals or it could be the rings or a bad head gasket so you have take into consideration of the mileage and the maintenance so then we have a better idea with out being there .The folks here are very bright so this a cool place for answers have any other question keep us posted .later H doctor

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

use some fuel injector cleaner!! its leaking a lil while you sit there and when you go the extra oil burns quickly and poof smoke comes out!!

just a guess not positive but wouldn't hurt to put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank.
I suggest Chevron Techtron.

ya true it couldnt hurt..
although i would recommend using SeaFoam. It works wonders! Plus it can be used to more then just the fuel system.. ie: you can put it in your oil, gas, or also in a vacuum line... it comes in a white can at most auto parts stores. just make sure you read the can on how to use it..

It smells like an oil/gas mix. I have had friends ride behind me and they say that it only happens when I first roll and start going.

The mileage is 122,000 and I was told that the knock and o2 censor can be casuing this problem because the car isnt judging the right amount of fuel in the car??

I also have already put Sea Foam in it and this stuff started happening after the Sea Foam treatment, about 2 weeks later if that even matters.

is seafoam really good? my dad has been working on cars since he was like 12 and he highly recommends not using seafoam as it is not good for your car. i personally do not know much about it but my dad is right about 99% of the things he tells me about cars.

Re: Puffs alot of smoke

i used seafoam in my gas, and oil, and it cleaned everything right out. Ran way better, more power too.

well it depends on what kind of condition your engine is in.
if the seals and gaskets internally are being held together by the built up gunk, then yes the seefoam in only going to make it "worse." because its going to clean all that gunk out.

but if your engine is in pretty decent shape and has just a normal amount of wear on it. and not being held together by the gunk then its a great thing because like i said it will clean all the extra crap out.

******just thought about i think on the bottle it says not to use it if your engine has over like 150,000 miles on it too.

Edit: Personally i run it through my cars about every 30K or so. just make sure everything stays nice, clean, and running at its best. Probably why my 97 GMC 1500 pick up is still running strong at 386K!
