oil leak after VC's

alrighty so some of you guys may have rembered my ordeal with the VC's and torque wrench peice falling into my engine.. well to make a long story short I am losing oil.. from the 2nd hole on the dipstick to little over half after 15miles.. I took the car in today to get looked @ and for my clutch replacement and we showed me it may bee running down from the valve cover area. would I lose this much oil if that sucker's gasket was shot? I just put a brand new type R valve cover on with new gasket but had to reuse when I did the VC's after paying 230 euro. (about 370 Us dollars) he wanted to charge me another 100 euro to reseal the oil pan.. but he doesnt even know for sure its leaking from there! I get it back tommrow But I have already checked the obivous places, vtech solenoid, cam bung,Main seal When clutch was off.. the pan has a nice film of oil on it as well as oil underneith the whole underbody along with the oil filter coated.. could I really be losing this much oil from the Valve Cover gasket being Fubar?

Re: oil leak after VC's

it would be painfully obvious if it was leaking from the VC gasket, the entireee engine would be soaked underneath where it would be leaking from.

i'm putting my money on the oil cooler gasket, behind the oil filter.
it really isn't that hard to diagnose oil leaks; look at the heightest point on the engine that's covered in oil, and look around there. oil can't defy gravity.

Re: oil leak after VC's

just one nut. take off the oil filter, take off the nut that holds the oil cooler on (it's big, like 26-28mm), pull oil cooler off, replace gasket, install in reverse order.

but first you wanna make sure its leaking from there before going thru that work
