Tire Stretching.........

I know this is a touchy subject but **** it im going for it anyway. I have read the pro's and con's of having tires stretched. After a recent purchase of a set of Super Advans (Front 16x7+32 Rear 16x8+32), It is now time to shop for tires. I am curious besides running a 5mm or 10mm spacer who else has stretched their tires? I understand the only benifit from them is helping prevent tire rub and maybe strengthening tire wall(ill believe it when i see it). Besides that, your tire wear increases dramatically and chance of a bead popping people still seem to be getting there tires stretched. I am not sure if i will stretch them but it is an option.

Re: Tire Stretching.........

some rim damage...depends on the bead seal that is used...i know when i mounted tires at the shop i worked at the bead seal was a thick black rubber cement type..and when i had to remove tires with this bead seal it was tough stuff...

Re: Tire Stretching.........

That depends on how much stretch your talking about. I know some tires have a rim protector lip, like Nitto NeoGens and other brands, that will help prefent exposing the wheel lip.

Its more cons than pros.

Cons... you can cause serious damage to you and the wheel, if you take a sharp corner too fast. The tire wont have enough grip on the wheel from slipping off.
Cons... if you go to much stretch, you will have a hard time getting a tire shop to install them.
Cons... its harder to get stretch tires on a stiff sidewall. So you will have to find a softer compound tire. Like Nitto, Falken, etc...

Pros... you can get wider wheels and still be able to stretch tires for no rubbing.
Pros... well there isnt anymore

215 is a mild stretch on an 8 wide wheel. I have that on my 8 wide wheel
215 on a 7 wide, is gonna be no stretch at all.

The height isnt gonna change the stretch. It will just give it that low profile look.

I watched video's on youtube using the cheetah that **** looks sketchy but it seems to work. After having your tires stretched have you hit any pot holes ****ty roads or made any hard turns?

I did it, more for clearance and rubbing issues. If you dont rub, then no need to stretch. Most peeps go extreme with width and offset. Plus they want to be slammed, so the pics that were shown, is a good example of why peeps stretch their tires.

I would call that wild. I dont believe they drive this car on a daily tho. Lets just say, they probably take wide turns as well. The car is probably a trailer queen

I like it tho

Re: Tire Stretching.........

No I didn't have the 9.5 wide wheel installed on my car. It was for a friend of our Assistant manager. but yea..I don't think I'd go any wider than 8inch or maybe 8.5 inches at most...
