Icon5 Shift Boot Insight...

I have a 97 base manual...I have two awesome shift knobs that I have wanted to use in my ride (one at a time of course, lol).

This brings me to my question. I hate the shift boot bezel in our rides, as it has the fake chrome bezel that clicks in to the stock shift knob. I want to be rid of that and still have a stock/stock looking shift boot like the Integra shift boot. The Integra shift boot has a plastic circle instead of the fake chrome bezel and just sits below the stock shift knob and doesn't mate to the knob itself, like ours.

I have included pics of our cars shift boot and one that's on an Integra...I am not sure if this will fit in our center console or not and I wanted to see what your thoughts were on this super minor mod. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Re: Shift Boot Insight...

It would be so sweet if someone had already done this and can instill confidence that is all good, so I don't waste $40 on something I will not get to fit in our car. Cheers!!!

Re: Shift Boot Insight...

I'm pretty sure I've seen people use the civic type r (red stitching) shift boot before. If I'm right all you need to do is take the bottom piece off and put the prelude bottom piece in its place.
There are some clips that hold the boot in it's place, you take them off, replace the boot and put the clips back on.

Re: Shift Boot Insight...

Sweet Myself, I was just a friends house and he had his console out of hes "long gone" Civic in the garage as he has an Integra now...this Civic boot that I got is stock and black stitched, like I want...its a little "lowered" for a short shifter that was in his old Civic but I got it for free and am going to try and install it...I WILL take pics of the process and post them if all is successful so others can get rid of that horrible fake plastic adapter...eBay has new ones for $35 shipped. Once it does, I am being positive, I might get a brand new one of eBay as this one is a little tattered and has a microscopic tear. Preludezone ROCK!!!

I will update with pics of install when I get it done...maybe tomorrow.

I have seen that post here and just wanted a cleaner look...I know its being a little anal but, C'est La Vie!

Glad to hear it is a direct replacement...looking forward to being rid of that damned fake chrome adapter. Thanks for the input UPSluder!

Re: Shift Boot Insight...

Ok everyone here is the deal. I purchased a JDM OEM Honda Civic type R red stitched leather shift boot. I took off the stock shift boot and removed it from the plastic base. I then did the same with the type R boot removing the leather portio itself from the metal base. I then sewed the type R boot on to the stock plastic base using thin clear fishing line. It worked like a charm and it fits perfect and snug and looks completely OEM. I finished it off with USDM Integra Type R polished aluminum shift knob (nice and heavy), complements of Password JDM. IMO this is a very sexy setup that costs less than $160, and still provides an OEM feel/look.
