225/45R16 on Stock SH Wheels?

I've asked this question on other prelude forums already but I'm getting mixed answers so I'll try here:

I heard 225's should fit on the Stock SH wheels which are 6.5" wide from what I've read. When go searching for tires on tirerack, for example, all my 225 tire options recommend at least a 7" wide tire.

My other option is to go with some 215's.

I'm trying to figure out whats going to be better in my case, Im looking for grip and of course treadwear matters but if we were to make traction and handling a priority what would be my best case?

225's with some sidewall sag vs 215's that fit fine?

Thanks again, ask me if any clarification is needed. In case youre interested here are the models I was considering:

The 225's:

BFGoodrich
g-Force T/A KDW 2

The 215's (215/50R16):

The General Exclaim

General Exclaim UHP

If this were to be used, in say, applications such as track/autox, if they both truly fit fine (no sag on the larger tires), would getting the bigger tires really be best?

Re: 225/45R16 on Stock SH Wheels?

Not really. I went through this a little while ago myself. And I wound up on 205/50s. Why? Because it's a relatively standard size, and as a result teh tyres were cheaper. I got top of the line Japanese manufactured Bridgestones for less than what I was quoted for a brand that I couldn't pronounce the name of. I also suspect that the difference in quality on the larger tyre when compared to the Bridgestone would almost totally negate the advantage of having a slightly wider tread width.

But as you said, a 7" wheel is reccommended for a 225 wide tyre. You could fit a 225 to a 6 or 6.5" if you wanted to, but I wouldn't.

I been through this. Installed "BF Goodrich Traction T/A T 225/55R16 and could not drive it out of the parking lot they rubbed so bad, front and rear. Replaced with "BF Goodrich Traction T/A T 215/55R16 Width 8.9"" Diameter 25.3"", no problems, great tire. My car has the stock suspension, not lowered.
