Bring it on Winter!

Well I just got my snow tires on and man they look beefy. My g/f and I use to car pool to work together cause we work at the same job but not anymore so I had to break down and get some snow's. I did some google searches on this tire brand (Gislaved, Nord Frost 5) cause I had never heard of them and I have only read good things. If no one has done a product review on these tires I'll probably write one up once I've driven with these in the snow.

For those of you that live in areas where it snows do you have snow tires? If so have you put on your snow tires yet? Or are you one of those people that wait until it literally starts snowing a lot before you put yours on?

(and yes I know the tire place put my front wheels on backwards...I'll have to change that)

Im planning on doing the same, Scottish winters can be horrible . Those tyres look good, shame they put them on your rims the wrong way round.

Re: Bring it on Winter!

Please, if you're going to fix the rims, please take it back to wherever they put the tires on and have them fix it. Those are directional tires, and definitely, definitely should not e put on backwards. So basically, you've got a right side tire put on the left side rim, and then mounted on the right side so that the tire is rolling the correct way. Just a thought. But those suckers look pretty knarly! Hope they work well for ya!

Re: Bring it on Winter!

Hey that looks nice and grippy. It definitely snows here in NJ too, but i just use my regular tires year round, plus i live in a city so the snow's pretty much shoveled on time more or less. I figure being fwd and being a very careful driver especially in the winter should get me through.
Your tires look really teethy, nice.

Snow tires rock, just make sure to avoid using them above about 45 degrees or they'll wear like crazy

Re: Bring it on Winter!

mmm Snow,
my dad is "immediately" putting snow tires on the lude we're buying.
I guess that's ok, but he wants steel wheels too (+hubbys ) since it's bad to be taking tires off of the rims all of the time? so he wants a snow set.

But your tires are looking good man,

Its so true. Last winter I was lucky to get out of my bay..... And the occasional days I did I'd get stuck a few blocks later. They rarely plow snow around here . Especially not minor streets

Re: Bring it on Winter!

Yeah I noticed that the winters are directional (not very common) so I'll have to have them re-mounted, I know it's kind of small and picky but It's going to bug the crap out of me having the front and rear wheels going in different directions.

Quote:

I got them for $125/tire but that was mounted and balanced and I got a discount, they probably retail for a little more than that.

Quote:
I bet those things make so much road noise... lol
They are actually pretty quiet, not any louder than my all season Fusion HRi's. If I had studs they would be really loud but these tires are pretty quiet, I can hear the motor and wind on the interstate more than the tire noise.

Quote:

Yeah I just had them on and it doesn't get much warmer than like 45-50 now

I think you guys are underestimating the snow we get up here, yeah it's not like Alaska or anything but we still get a good amount of snow up here.

Re: Bring it on Winter!

Well now that It's been winter here for a couple months and I'm very happy with these tires. Unfortunately I've only driving a couple times while it was snowing pretty bad out. I had to go up my friends driveway and it was pretty steep in 2-3 inches and I just kept my momentum and made it up no prob. The other time was on back road that had a lot of turns and had no issues.

So unfortunately I haven't really been able to push the tires to their limits, but sometime this year I bet I'll find out, but so far with the couple times of crappy weather I've been in they've been great.

Re: Bring it on Winter!

my snow tires make a huge difference. If you noticed the all the little holes in those tires.....that was because those tires are also studdable....they have to do it before mounting it on the rim, but they install little metal spikes into the tire all they way around. I have these on my car and it is like night and day. I used to go to school in VT and go back and forth to CT every weekend and did A LOT of driving in the snow. I bought a pair of studded snow tires like 9 years ago and have been running them every winter since. I live up a huge hill right now that is like 1/2 mile long straight up and I never get stuck anywhere with the studded tires it is lke having 4WD. I love them. They are a little noisy but it dosnt bother me. They work great.
